All the hinges work well on the case. The dial in very good condition. With day date and sub second dial. Very fine gold that look original. The glass is very high clean and clear. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs well. With a very very fine decorated and engraved balance cock, a silver Tompion regulator. This watch was made C 1780. The watch will come with a key. Just great to have such an amazing and interesting watch that is as good as this one, and it just has every thing one could want on a fine verge watch, very hard to find a watch in this condition with all that it has going for it. This watch is so very well priced, and well presented. An absolute must for any serious collector or would make a wonderful present. Antique Pair Cased Verge Champleve Dial Pocket Watch. Signed Ewd Bayley, London, circa 1740. Gilt fusee movement signed and numbered 105, square baluster pillars, silver champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals signed John Ballard (probably the first owner), arcaded minute track, beetle and poker hands. Both cases with maker’s mark GB for George Bruvet & a Lion for sterling silver. Inner case numbered 105, 49mm wide see Photo’s. Both cases with small surface scratches, outer case has minor dents, outer case bezel is slightly springing when closed. Hard to believe this watch was made in 1896!!! The detailed engraving on the front and back covers of this Size 0 pocket watch are almost as sharp as they were when this watch was made. Obviously this watch was not worn often. The American Watch Case Company 14k solid gold case measures 34.6 mm wide not including the bow and crown. It weighs 22.1 pennyweight or 34.3 grams. There is a Oct. 7,’98 dedication on the inside dust cover lid. This Waltham watch is way too nice to be scrapped. The SIGNED dial is clean and has black Roman numeral hour markers and matching blued hands. The crystal is clean. The hinges are tight. Up for sale, is a beautiful, very large, early, and rare silver pair case verge fusee, mock pendulum, antique pocket watch, with a lovely chamlpleve dial, and a date indicator, circa 1725. The watch has just been cleaned and serviced and the movement is in perfect working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain in all positions very smoothly. The watch comes with a very detailed documentation that was written by the previous collector and owner in the seventies. Please look at pictures. The beautiful fire gilt mock pendulum movement is signed. Amazing mock pendulum balance. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. Main spring barrel with worm – classic feature for early verge movements. The movement is in wonderful condition. John May , born in Holland. Is very well listed in all the reference books. For a good example you can look at: Brian Loomes, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Complete 21st Century Edition, p. He has watches and clocks on display in several collections. John May worked in the years 1693 – 1738. Very large and deep. Silver inner case in very good condition. Plain silver original outer case professionally restored in the back center – a rounded shape restoration as you can notice from the pictures. Dial: Classic arcaded silver champleve dial with a date indicator. Early original signed: May, London. The dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic outside numerals for the minutes. Fully functional date indicator. Very nice golden studs between the hour numbers. As mentioned, it is a large and heavy silver pair case pocket watch. The silver inner case is 51 mm wide and the silver outer case is 59 mm. The watch weighs 146 grams. It is almost the size of a French oignon pocket watch. Antique solid silver pair cased with matching hallmarks (hard to see on inner case) dated c 1779? With a silversmiths initials W L its verge fusee movement is signed N Giles numbered 20672 watch that is all in as found unpolished condition. As can be seen in the photos the balance wheel and retaining cock are missing the bull nose glass is worn , the outer case has its locking clip missing and the inner case needs a repair to its opening hinge. Beautiful big and solid pair cased verge fusee onion watch, circa 1700. Signed by Fromantel & Clarke. Both inner and outer cases are made of solid 22k gold. This watch was probably produced for French clientele, outer case is decorated with arabesques in style of French Louis XIV onions. Watch is very nice, high quality piece. It also features date indication. The movement made in manner of 1700s, features beautiful pierced & engraved cock with D-shaped leg, tulip pillars, steel balance bridge. Fromanteel & Clarke Ahasuerus I Fromanteel was member of Blacksmith company in 1630 and member of Clockmaking Company in 1632. He was the first, who introduced pendulum clocks in England. His son, Ahasuerus II became member of Clockmaking Company in 1663. In 1680, Ahasuerus II Fromanteel moved from London to Amsterdam, where he started in 1693 patnership with his son-in-law, Christopher Clarke. Ahasuerus II Fromanteel died in 1703, but Clarke used this signature till 1720. Please note, that watch is big and thick, much larger than pair cases watches of mid-XVIII. The weight only the two cases are about 77 grams, total weight is 156 grams. Diameter of outer case is 56mm, thickness is 30mm. Condition The porcelain dial in Dutch style is in good condition with couple of tiny, hardly visible imperfections – near center and the spring that locks movement in case. Movement is in running condition, works in every position, but I don’t guarantee time keeping. Case is in good condition, though engraving is worn in the center, as you can see on the photos.
