Pocket Watch Case

Up for sale, is a beautiful, very large, early, and rare silver pair case verge fusee, mock pendulum, antique pocket watch, with a lovely chamlpleve dial, and a date indicator, circa 1725. The watch has just been cleaned and serviced and the movement is in perfect working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain in all positions very smoothly. The watch comes with a very detailed documentation that was written by the previous collector and owner in the seventies. Please look at pictures. The beautiful fire gilt mock pendulum movement is signed. Amazing mock pendulum balance. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. Main spring barrel with worm – classic feature for early verge movements. The movement is in wonderful condition. John May , born in Holland. Is very well listed in all the reference books. For a good example you can look at: Brian Loomes, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Complete 21st Century Edition, p. He has watches and clocks on display in several collections. John May worked in the years 1693 – 1738. Very large and deep. Silver inner case in very good condition. Plain silver original outer case professionally restored in the back center – a rounded shape restoration as you can notice from the pictures. Dial: Classic arcaded silver champleve dial with a date indicator. Early original signed: May, London. The dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic outside numerals for the minutes. Fully functional date indicator. Very nice golden studs between the hour numbers. As mentioned, it is a large and heavy silver pair case pocket watch. The silver inner case is 51 mm wide and the silver outer case is 59 mm. The watch weighs 146 grams. It is almost the size of a French oignon pocket watch. Vacheron & Constantin 18k gold hunter case Pocket Watch. ¼ Repeater Geneva 1900. Beautiful and manufactured in the finest quality hunter case pocket watch with ¼ repetition and solid 18k gold case of the Geneva watchmaker Vacheron & Constantin, Switzerland around 1900. The case is made of solid 18k gold with spring lid. Case in very good condition without some traces of wear. Spring lid with engraved monogram heart. Dust cover with brand “Vacheron & Constantin Geneve ” and an engraved owners brand. Cover with Vacheron & Constantin cross mark and frence gold importmarks in all lids. Glass in very good condition. Enamelled dial with Roman hour and Arabic minute. The dial is in very nice condition , undamaged. Three golden hands, subsidiary seconds. Beautiful and gilt movement with free standing bridges, stem wind and lever escapement. Lever with visible stones. Large visible jewels in the bridges. A bimetallic balance wheel with screw weights with and blued spring. Eschapement with counter weights. Wolf toothed winding wheels. ¼ repeater with two hammers on two gongs. Triggering the repetition with slider under number 6. The clean movement runs flawlessly. Very nice overall condition. Diameter 53mm, weight 125g. Sehr gut / very good. Antique solid silver pair cased with matching hallmarks (hard to see on inner case) dated c 1779? With a silversmiths initials W L its verge fusee movement is signed N Giles numbered 20672 watch that is all in as found unpolished condition. As can be seen in the photos the balance wheel and retaining cock are missing the bull nose glass is worn , the outer case has its locking clip missing and the inner case needs a repair to its opening hinge. It measures 59 mms approx across the outer case. A fabulous antique pocket watch worth restoration? Or just for spares? Sorry i do not post to PO Boxes.
