1923 Hamilton 992E 16s 21j Montgomery DS RR Pocket Watch BOC Gold Filled Case

Up for sale is a beautiful 1923 Hamilton 992E 16 size 21 Jewel Railroad Grade Pocket Watch in a fabulous Model 2 Bar over Crown Gold Filled Case. This watch has been fully serviced. Cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner and oiled. It is keeping near perfect time, within a minute per 24 hours. It is a Model 1 with the narrow lines on the movement. Serial # 1716089 dates this movement to around 1923. What makes this movement particularly special is it was produced 7 or 8 years before Hamilton started making the 992′s with the Elinvar hairspring. It was likely sent back in to the factory at some point to be repaired or serviced and was converted at that time. The pallet bridge is marked Elivar and it does have the metallic color hairspring which would indicate that it was added just after they were produced. The earliest Elivar hairsprings were metallic in color but were soon after switched to blue. The dial is a virtually mint porcelain double sunk “Blindman’s” Montgomery dial. There are no hairlines or damage at all. Stunningly clean and beautiful. The steel blue hands are also exceptionally clean. This watch is cased in a sparkling Model 2 Bar over Crown Wadsworth 10 Gold Filled Case. The crown is marked Hamilton Railroad. It is in exquisite condition. There is no brass showing anywhere on the case. No dings or dents on the edges and the bow is nice and stiff. The back cover does have one virtually undetectable indentation and just the slightest amount of pocket wear to the pickiest eye but that is it for imperfections.
