Pocket Watch Case

This item being offered is an antique Longines pocket watch. The engine turned pattern. 800 silver case is in good condition with one dent in the back that should pop out. 49 mm in diameter. It just needs a good polishing also. The dial has hairlines and a chip out of it at 1 o’clock. The movement is running, but could use a good servicing as it has been sitting for around 30 years. The time is set through the crown and the pin set for the time zone hands. I can find very little information on this model watch that I would guess dates to the early 1900′s. IT HAS THE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER DOUBLE SUNK WHITE PORCELAIN RAILROAD DIAL WITH BIG BOLD ARABIC HOUR MARKERS AND IS SIGNED HAMILTON. THE DIAL FACES UP GREAT, BUT DOES HAVE A MINOR HAIRLINE AT 28.5 AND AN EDGE CHIP AT 8, THAT IS COMPLETELY INVISIBLE WITH THE BEZEL ON. IT ALSO HAS ALL THE VERY HIGH GRADE FEATURES OF THE FINEST OF RAILROAD WATCHES SUCH AS; LARGE RED RUBY JEWELS, FINE REGULATOR FOR VERY PRECISE TIME REGULATION AND NICKEL BRIDGE MOVEMENT. RARE AND HISTORICALLY INTERESTING! CAPTAIN’S DUAL TIME ZONE WATCH WITH A VERY RARE ALUMINUM CASE, MARKED WARRANTED ALUMINUM. There was a time in the mid 1800′s when Aluminum was more precious and costly than Gold. History has Napolean III serving his most honored guests with Aluminum tableware, while the less exalted attendees had to make do with silver! The use of Aluminum in Watch Cases is rare indeed. The use of this Metal in a Seafaring Timepiece is of interesting Historical note because of Aluminum’s oxidation resistance. This is the only timepiece of this type I have ever encountered. It has a “Warranted Aluminum” stamp that indicates the Material was still rare when the case was produced. The Movement dates to Ca. This would have been in a transitional period when Aluminum was probably still more precious than silver, but not ultra rare and valuable. The cost of producing Aluminum dropped rapidly as electrostatic collection methods were improved throughout the 1860′s and 70′s. With the advent of more modern electricity generation the cost of production and thus the cost of the metal itself dropped to a level where commercial industrial uses were possible. Case marked as: “Warranted Aluminum”, with a Crown. Hinge is perfect and tight, spring is good and firm, and cover does not open past 90 degrees. Cuvette Marked Double Timer, Full Jewelled. Overall Excellent condition with minor wear and signs of age as noted. Minor Blems to dial, minor loss of plating or simply rubbing to oxidation on case. Minute hand shows tarnish. RARE BALL OFFICIAL STANDARD 999P 2 Two Time Zone POCKET WATCH. Watch is running, the dial is very clean, the white 14K Gold case has some surface scratches and a small sing in the back. The crystal (Glass) is loose, I actually did it trying to remove the front bezel to set the time. I can’t undo it with my hands. I don’t wish to do any more damage so I have left it as it is. It has been on my desk running for 5 hours. (Can’t test for accuracy as I can’t set the time). The movement is 21 jewels. 14K Gold filled case.
