1890 RARE PAIR CASED / ONLY 69000 MADE ELGIN G M WHEELER SILVER 18S POCKET WATCH. Ll be honest, its the first time I have ever seen an Elgin pair case pocket watch, even rarer with the large gold image of a horse & jockey on the back!!!! 1890, G M Wheeler, Grade 44, Model 5, Class 9, 18S, either 15J or 17J, stem set with date serial number 3506121. Research revealed that a total of only 69,000 were produced of this model during 1890 making it quite rare, even rare being pair cased. Working, ticking strongly and was tested over a 19 hour period and kept near perfect time, maybe lost 10 to 20 seconds. May need a service though as when winding, the winder pulled out of the stem. The outer Fays Senior Coin (silver). Case is 58.4mm in diameter with serial number U3076. The inner case is 50.2mm in diameter, same serial number U3076 but is not stamped silver. Dial has a few cracks, glass has wear, unsure if the horse and jockey are gold or gold plated. Local Brisbane pick-up welcomed. Fairly uncommon 16 size 21 jewel Hamilton Hayden Wheeler. The unsigned dial on this. Model is actually correct. There is a light hairline between 1 and 2:00. Hands are in nice shape. Crystal is good and appears to be plastic. The CWC Crescent hunter. Case shows one set of additional case screw marks. The case is in nice shape. Open to 90 degrees. Might have to help front lid up. Also the crown pulls a bit far and. Has to be held up lightly to set the time. So a different case or stem adjustment is needed. The watch was cleaned, oiled and adjusted last May. It runs very well and keeps good time. Might have only been 500 of these 21 jewel hunters made. 16 size 21 jewel open face pendant-set Hayden W. Wheeler pocket watch with its original 14K gold “HWW” Hayden W. Watch is private label marked on dial and movement for retailer Davis & Hawley of Bridgeport and Waterbury, Connecticut. Rare watch with a total production of only 250 made. Movement is beautifully finished with gold jewel settings, gold center wheel, gold balance screws, and Hayden W. Wheeler’s distincitve two-finger bridge plate design and wavy pattern nickel damaskeen. Case rear is engraved with A. ” initials and its gold cuvette is engraved “From Father to A. Movement serial number is 175256. Gross weight of assembled watch is 57.7 dwt (89.8 grams). Running and a very nice looking movement with excellent color and luster. Dial faces up very well but has a few light hairlines and glaze scratches. Case is in strong condition with a good in hand look and feel. Bow is thinned at top, likely from carry on a chain. Tougher to find large scallop-edge case is in great condition with medium even wear – to the eye the only wear to brass is on the bow, even the extreme edges of the case body don’t show brass. This is a vintage Elgin 18 size 15 jewel G. Wheeler key wind/key set pocket watch out of an estate! The watch is in a big heavy Dueber coin silver case! The movement is marked: G. Wheeler 118176 Patent Elgin Ill. The serial number on the movement dates the watch to 1870. The watch will currently run/wind/set properly. The dial is marked: National Watch Co. The hands have been replaced at some point. The inside of the case back is marked: Dueber Coin 323228. The case is in good condition, there are some light scratches. The case back is engraved T.
