Up for sale, antique Victorian French gilt brass and beveled glass pocket watch holder display case box, Grand Tour souvenir. The case is lined with cushioned silk. Top of the case has a reversed painting/collage of city square depicting statue on a high pedestal with background building. Bottom portion of the painting is decorated with mother of pearl fragments and printed title possible reads “A’NGERS – Statue de David d’Angers” The image is distorted and not very clear, possibly due to humidity. Comes with the antique pocket watch and chain presentation case, box, as shown. Slides move up and down the 16 length, tassels are complete. Box is in excellent form, gold-embossed London etiquette inside. (pocket watch shown for ambiance, does not go with this set of chain and box). Very good condition throughout. The box is superb, likely c. 1830-50, silk velvet nap is lush and full, and gold-embossed beautifully. Very slight warp to front (it is wood beneath the cover and linings). Silk sating and velvet interior made to hold a watch 40mm. Measurements noted on photos. The one notation is that there ought to also be an anchor bar, I believe, hooked to the one section of larger chain, which would be inserted into a vest buttonhole. I have an extra one of those and will include it with this offering, but you will need to have a single chain link to attach it. I’m sorry I didn’t picture it. It does match and makes the watch chain functional in all respects. The watch clasp is excellent. Some parts are gold plated in 10k and 14k gold. The slender chain is not, but shows brightly. Watch is highly collectable and I will completed a full service next week. The watch is very rare the watch has a sought after blue chaptering, with three subsidiary dials. Far left as you look at the watch there is the date , centre is the seconds and far right is the days in full. The dial is signed John Barrel Locle. The case also benefits from a push button release. An early Victorian silver pair-cased verge pocket watch c1843. The crystal is missing and the balance is loose. The bow is attached on one side only and will need to be re-pinned.
