It is absolutely perfect in every way. Even though it is 217 Years old, from 1805! Naturally the BIG and HIGH QUALITY VERGE FUSEE MOVEMENT RUNS STRONGLY. The Watch is oversized at 58 mm and it has two cases. Both inner-& outer Case is Guided on solid Silver. Unusually for the Time of Napoleon, this Pocket Watch is equipped with a small Seconds Hand and Sub-dial at the 6 oClock position. Note that Verge movements have gear ratios that doesn’t allow to just put Seconds Hand on the third wheel. Usually the third wheel doesn’t make one Turn per 60 seconds. It need to make special Effort and Calculations, to make Gears that make one Turn in 60 Seconds. It is very rare to see Second Hand on Verges of this Time! This pocket watch was especially made for a Doctor and it also has a STOP FUNCTION. Possibly many Doctors have inherited this precious and expensive Watch and used it at their services. The Mainspring has been fully wound more than 24 hours ago and it is still running with CA 30minutes late.. This is truely to be expected from a Verge Fusee Watch of that Age! The Large DIAL is in Good Condition. Expert Advice explained that the dial may have been replaced around 1880 with this flat dial. It has Large Roman Numerals. The CONVEX GLASS above it, is also in excellent condition. So is the seconds sub-dial and hand. Just like the finest and hardened Watch Hands. Please examine the Fotos as they are part of the description. On the Guilded Backcover is a ornate engraving what looks like a C T K entwined. The inner and outer Case opens and shuts well. Care is necessary not to touch the little leaver of the Stop watch mechanism on the side of the inner Case. From the inner Case the Mainspring is wound and from the Front at the centre of the Hands the watch is Set for the right time. For your consideration is a rare antique heavy 18K gold hunting case Louis Audemars Independent dead beat seconds complication with calendar date. Made for the French market. Late 1850s, cased in the 1880s. The original white double sunk porcelain dial is unsigned as was common with LA watches with black Roman numeral hour markers, original rose gold spade hands and subsidiary calendar date below. The dial is free of hairlines, chips or cracks. The case is a large and heavy 18K gold hunting case with solid 18K gold cuvette with advertising in the French language of the complications of this watch. Swiss Helvética gold stamps can be seen on all the doors and hallmarks on the middle case near the movement. This case was not made by Meylan Freres who were the exclusive case makers for Audemars. Enamel monogram initials are seen on the dial side front cover and enamel work on the back cover. There is a 18K pusher which starts and stops the second hand. The crown is missing some gold (peeling). The crown when pushed should open the front cover but the tube may be missing because I need to open the front cover with my nail to open it. The case measures 54mm not counting the crown or bow. This watch weighs a very heavy 136.8 grams. The movement is a ultra high grade lever set nickel plated 32 jewel two train tandem winding movement with independent dead beat seconds complication and calendar movement. The second hand ticks like a quartz watch would on beat and the gold pusher can start and stop the seconds but doesnt return the hand to zero like a chronograph. Anchor escapement and Breguet blue balance spring. This first quality movement is complete and in working condition telling strong time and the pusher stops and starts the seconds properly.
