Up for sale is a beautiful and rare English verge fusee gilt repousse pair case antique pocket watch, circa 1745. The watch has not been cleaned and serviced but the movement is in good working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain very smoothly and keeps very good time. 90 minutes fast for 24 hours – very good time keeping for an early verge like this. The movement: Three arm gilt balance. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. Very rare and interesting square pillars. The beautiful fire gilt movement is signed. Is one of the very good English watch makes of England in the 18th century. He is well listed in all the reference books. For a good example you can look at: G. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Vol. The inner case: Gilt, very nice condition. The outer case: Gilt repousse. Beautiful work, very good condition, no dents at all. Both cases are original. It is a large and heavy pair case gilt pocket watch. The gilt inner case is 41 mm wide and the gilt repousse outer case is 52 mm. The watch weighs 89 grams. The extremely early and near mint original enamel dial has Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. Beetle and poker hands. A lovely high domed clear crystal glass. Every part of this watch is original. As you can see from the pictures, it is a lovely and spectacular watch in an amazing condition!! Mystery pair case verge watch, age uncertain, early/mid 1700? Case with repoussé scene, Looks like Venus and Adonis holding a spear? Also som kind of angel/devil whispering in Venus ear. Because of the poor condition it´s very hard to find a makers name. The case have some similarities with cases by Moser. Lovely golden movement with parts of blue steel. Please look carefully at the makers namne. Maby easier if you have a trained eye. On the top of the movement there is an ornament with a smiling lion? On the side there is an other small beautiful ornament. Enamled and with Arabic numerals. Nice mid-XVIII verge fusee pocket watch. Made by Chamberlain, Hertford and bears serial number 125. London hallmarks date inner case to 1761. Outer case is made in repousse technique and is probably decorated by “The Family of Darius before Alexander” scene. It has some soldering and reparations, please see photos. Movement is verge British movement of mid-XVIII. It features nice pierced and engraved balance cock, square baluster pillars, barrel with worm. Movement is in working condition, but amplitude of balance is very small, it should be regulated. The dial seems to be in nice condition with one minor restoration at IIII hours. Nice original hands, bull eye glass. Outer case diameter is 53mm, height is 58mm, thickness is 26mm. Weight is 93 grams. The scene is truly remarkable made, with many figures and even animals. Movement is typical verge British movement of mid-XVIII. It features very nice pierced and engraved balance cock with grotesque mask. Square baluster pillars, barrel with worm, tompion regulator with silver regulation disk. It’s signed and numbered. Movement is in working condition. The dial seems to be in nice condition. Minutes hand is not original. Outer case diameter is 50mm, height is 53mm, thickness is 28mm. Weight is 103 grams. Baille’s book mention watchmaker William Lloyd at London c. Outer case is made in repousse technique and decorated with most probable “The Continence of Scipio” scene. Movement is typical verge British movement of mid-XVIII. It features nice pierced and engraved balance cock, steel balance wheel, square baluster pillars, barrel with worm. Movement is in working condition. The dial seems to be in nice condition without visible flaws. Nice original hands, bull eye glass. Both cases has minor traces of soldering, but seems to be in decent condition, without wholes. Exception is the outer case opening button, but it works as it should. Outer case diameter is 50mm, height is 57mm, thickness is 27mm. Weight is 86 grams.
