Exceptional quarter repeater from the English maker J Ullman. The condition of this timepiece is near mint. An immaculate dial, no dents or deep scratches to the case, unblemished movement and an undamaged blue enamel figure and monogram. The movement is of the highest standards with woolf-tooth winding gears, fully jeweled movement and faceted hammers. The 18 carat gold savonet case has two deep blue enamel engravings. One side shows a figure with the Latin line;’Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Protest’ (the brave may fall but cannot yield). The back side of the watch shows a stunning monogram with the letters M G C W. The movement ticks and winds like it should. The sound of the repeater is strong with a nice pace and clear tones. Dimensions without crown: 51mm. Dimensions with crown: 65mm. This is a Top Grade Minute Repeater Chronograph Pocket Watch from Humber Ramuz Co. Dating to approximately 1890s. The movement is tremendous with JEWELS TO HAMMERS and 30J+ overall along with wolf teeth winding and movement top-side chronograph mechanism. But this tremendous movement is not the only awesome aspect of this pocket watch, the case is so stunning that it can certainly be considered to be one-of-a-kind. On the front cover there is a high relief sculpture of a griffon with all of its fangs, claws and wings whereby it is holding a large piece of diamond emitting rays. This diamond is old European cut and approximately 0.45ct. The base finish of the case itself is a sand-blasted look and the Humber Ramuz label is stamped 3 times including the wording medaille dor exp. Paris 1889 marking a great achievement of the brand. Condition-wise the movement was serviced by a great watchmaker just over a year ago and has been sitting in the safe. It cant be overlooked to have a highly capable watchmaker to service such a treasure the correct way. Cosmetically the dial has many hairlines cracks from 12 oclock position. There are a few hard-to-notice shallow dents here and there on the case. The chime and tone of the repeating is loud, clear, and beautiful sounding. Diameter is 53.5mm, total weight is 133.2 grams. Gilt brass cases, 79 mm. Verge, quarter repeating movement. A Swiss quarter repeater, in a very large and unusual oval hunter case. MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with small silver regulator disk, and beautifully pierced and engraved balance bridge with polished steel coquerette. All in good condition. Running well and repeating correctly, striking on two blued steel gongs. DIAL : White enamel dial, in quite good condition. One hairline running through the centre from 3 to 9, chips around the winding aperture and a few scratches. Blued steel Breguet type hands. CASE : A very large, oval, gilt brass half hunter case. The movement is accessed by an inner cover to the back, so it is wound (and hands set) through two small holes in the crystal. However the crystal is acrylic and the front of the inner case would originally of opened to access, so this a later modification. Originally the dial would have had an undrilled mineral crystal and the inner front cover would have lifted to access the dial for winding and setting.
