Specifications of Julien Le Roy OTTOMAN / TURK MARKET Pocket Watch. Julien Le Roy, probably the most inventive clockmaker in eighteenth century France, was appointed clockmaker to Louis XV (17101774), an honor that allowed him a workshop in the Louvre. The movement of the watch strikes hours and quarters on the back of the case instead of on a bell. This type of repeater, called a dumb repeater, allowed the user to tell the time unobtrusively by counting the vibrations of the case. The style of the case, with its beautiful opaque-enameled flowers that seem to float on an engraved gold ground, was fashionable among Parisian makers of watchcases and gold boxes about the middle of the eighteenth century. The watch is extremely rare to find and really big! The third case is silver and 1st & 2nd cases are a special material called tombac. (chopper plated with Gold and mercury). The watch has Quarter repeater specification! Inner case is 51 mm. The second, third ones are respectively 62, and 72 mm! The watch is really big. The second case is covered by tortoise shell which is colored with gold and has very nice view. It’s been kept so far in EXCELLENT condition. No pins are missing! The dial is porcelain and has no hairlines or cracks It is in perfect condition. The third case is 0.900 silver and has very nice flower engravings on it. This last cases were done by the ottoman masters as per the requests of the owners in ottoman empire in order to protect the tortoise shells. The movement belongs to this pocket watch and had stamped with 29353. The movement works flawless and keeps perfect timing. Even the arms are the originals and no changed! The watch has the repetition ability!! It strikes respectively the hours and quarters FLAWLESSLY! The watch will come with an original key and also a silver but gold plated enamel chain. Antique La Phare Quarter Repeater Pocket Watch, Hugenin Freres. 800 Silver Case, the watch is missing the crystal as well as one hand. The movement I believe is a La Phare Caliber OV. The movement measures 1 5/8″, the of the case size except crown is 2″. The exterior case is marked as follows: “17527″ & “H with a sideways F” I believe this is a hallmark for. Hugenin Freres, the interior case is marked : 0.800, crescent moon with crown, stamped grouse, HF hallmark again, 17527, as well as a hand etched “6532″. The movement is marked with an “A”, Swiss cross & 15833 on an raised wheel. There is also a “27″ on the edge of the case near the movement. The case is just beautiful with sunflowers, a rooster, a owl as well as leaves & vines. When the watch chimes it goes “ding ding ding ding dading dading” I wound the watch this morning and sat with it for an hour, everything inside moves, the second hand rotates fine, the one hand that is on the face only moved 6 minutes (not sure what that means). If I press the button on the side the mechanism it chimes but I heard no chimes while I sat with it for the hour. JOHN ELLICOTT 22K GOLD TRIPLE CASE HALF QUARTER REPEATING CYLINDER FUSEE POCKET WATCH. RECENTLY SERVICED IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND GOOD CONDITION. A fine and rare triple case half quarter repeater pocket watch by John Ellicott of London, listed in Bailles as one of the most Eminent English watch makers of the 18th century. The watch retains it’s original green leather protector outer case with gilt and pinwork decoration. The 22 caret gold middle case is pierced and chased around the front bezel and on the back cover features a repousse scene of a gent and a horse being greeted by an older man and his wife. The 22 caret gold inner case is decorated with elaborate pierced work of swirls and flowers, on the back of the inner case is a depiction of a large bird in flight, higher above the bird is the watch serial number 6792. The inside of the inner case houses a full size bell, hidden behind the bell are the hallmarks for London 1773, with a repeat serial number 6792 and the case makers mark TL (incuse with star shape above)for Thomas Layton of Dean St, Fetter Lane London. The chain-driven fusee movement with Cylinder escapement has a half quarter striking repeating mechanism, which is activated by the decorative plunge pendant at the top of the watch. The movement is signed Ellicott London and serial numbered 6792, it has a large diamond endstone, Tompion regulator, the dust cover is again signed Ellicott London and serial numbered 6792. The white enamel dial has Beetle and poker hands with a bullseye mineral glass crystal. The diameter of the watch complete is 58mm and the combined weight is 179 grammes, The outer leather bound protector case has served its purpose well by ensuring that both gold cases have been kept in pristine condition, the leather covering is beginning to show its age in places more so on the front bezel. The dial has no hairlines or chips. The movement is in good strong working order and the repeater function works correctly and in sync to the time. Footnote John Ellicott was appointed clock maker to George III in 1762, he was renowned for his use of the cylinder escapement. Cased American 10ct Gold Hour & Quarter Repeater Pocket Watch. The watch face has a white face with black numerals, blued steel hands and subsidiary seconds dial. The side lever chimes the number of hours. We would date it to around 1900/1920. The gold has a subtle rose tone. On the inside of the outer lid there is a set of marks… “10C” for 10 carat gold “CJ” for a makers mark The serial no. The inside leaf of the watch opens to reveal the mechanism and another set of 10 carat hallmarks. The inside of the watch is simple and elegant. It has beautiful ruby bearings which contrasts with the gold. A sales case is included, it has a blue tooled leather exterior. On the reverse of the case lid is the a retailers name and address Jewellers H&A. Davis 173 High St North EAST HAM. It is a top wind model with suspension loop. To set the hours, depress the button in the one o’clock position and use the top wind. To activate the striking repeater chime, the lever in the nine o’clock position needs to be raised. This chimes the number of hours followed by a double chime for each quarter hour. Condition The watch is in perfect working order, it keeps good time and strikes well. The gold has picked up very light surface wear. The face and hands are immaculate but the replacement perspex’glass’ has a small crack in the left hand side, near to the numeral 7 and 2. The box is in average condition with wearing signs. The colour has faded in different places, especially on the margins. Dimensions The watch with its suspension ring is 3 inches (6.6 cm) high. The actual watch body has a diameter of 2 inches (5.2 cm). The watch weighs 63.7g. The box is 4 x 3.4 inches (10 x 8 cm).
