Up for sale is a beautiful, rare, mint condition quarter repeater verge fusee 22 karat solid gold pair case antique pocket watch, circa 1780, made by the English eminent watchmaker Eardley Norton. The watch has just been cleaned and serviced and the movement is in perfect working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain very smoothly and keeps very good time. The repeater mechanism functions perfectly. The sound is loud and clear. The movement has a push pendant quarter repeating two hammers on a bell. Three arm brass balance. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. The mint fire gilt movement is signed. Eardley Norton, London, and numbered : 29159. Is one of the most eminent English watch makes of England in the 18th century. He is well listed in all the referenced books. For a good example you can look at: G. Overall, the case is in nice condition though there is some minor pitting on the exterior sides. The manual wind mechanism functions flawlessly as does the Quarter Hour repeater. It keeps accurate time. The repeater chimes in a single tone, once for each hour. It chimes in two tones for each quarter hour, so at 6:31, it will chime six times, and then issue a two tone chime twice, once for each of the past two quarter hours. Case size is 46mm and weight is 75 grams. It’s a solid watch and perfect for any function. The face is likely enamel. There is no chain included. It will be insured for the sale price.
