Excellent triple case pocket watch for ottoman market by George Prior. The outer and inner case are made of silver. Outer case is decorated with engraving in oriental style. The middle case has some silver parts and some brass and is covered by tortoiseshell. Good quality verge fusee movement is signed by Geo Prior and is numbered. Cock is probably decorated with monogram gk? Movement is in good running condition, it runs in all positions, though I don’t guarantee time keeping. Dial seems to be free from defects. Original beetle & poker hands, mineral glass. The cases are as shown – losses of tortoiseshell. The closing springs was repaired, they are loose, but works. The watch is quite big – outer case measures 57mm wide and 62mm high, thickness is 29mm. Overall weight is 150 grams. He received two awards from Society of Arts. 18C Ottoman Empire Turkish Crest Pair Case Silver Horn Verge Fusee Pocket Watch. A rather interesting find.. Made either in England or Switzerland for the Turkish market. I had it looked at by a specialist.. Who dated this to be from the 1750′s or so.. The chain of the watch was checked, along with the balance.. He then found a key to wind the watch.. And it began to tick…. The key is now included. It has been running for about 19 hours.. Running a little fast…… It was stated that the watch needs to be serviced. The short hand is also a little loose. He noted the push buttons that open the cases are both missing. The horn or pique on the outer case has significant wear… And at the back on the shell is what may be an under. Similar to what is now known as the Ottoman. It’s quite worn around the edges.. But the picture is for the most part intact. No crystal over the open face dial. There is only 1 mark inside the case…. JC in a diamond.. I was told the watches case is silver.. I’m unsure of the metal. The watch and it’s outer case measures about 3 1/2 long from very top to bottom.. 2 7/8 side to side.. There is a small loose piece of metal that I believe goes by the opening. Near where I have it placed. Do see my other fabulousfinds.
