A rare gent’s pocket watch with carousel power. According to the Swiss patent. 30754 of Paul Loichot. In a rare magnificent niello silver case. Date of manufacture approx. With club-tooth lever escapement. The tourbillon movement, invented by the Swiss watchmaker Paul Loichot, which he turned in the case to make it visible on face-side Swiss patent no. 30754, was patented for the Courvoisier brothers on July 4th in 1905 at the number 19062 and the trade name’Mobilis’. Tourbillons are constructions, wherein the balance, including spring and escapement, are attached in a movable, open case, which cancels the vertical location errors in as it rotates around itself. The balance is fixed in the center of the carousel. The seconds movement is under the balance of this central axis, which is installed seperatly of the second wheel and is moved by the “Kleinbodenrad” to be able to turn the carousel. The second wheel is fixed on the movement plate at the carousel-center axis. Which moves the escape wheel by undwind the escape movement. Breguet invented the Tourbillon about 1800 and patented it in 1801. Depending on type it can have different round trip times. In the construction described here the carousel rotates one time per minute. The Tourbillon is known to be one of the most difficult and complicated constructions in watchmaking history. This construction makes the most sense in portable watches. Engraved with crowing rooster. Sunk, excentric small dial with Arabic numerals and outer five-minute divisions. Aperture for visible tourbillon cage with engraved balance bridge. Very good condition with age traces of use. Fine florally engraved Tourbillon bridge. Ruby endstone on balance. Das vom Schweizer Uhrmacher Paul Loichot erfundene Tourbillonuhrwerk, welches er im Gehäuse wendete um es zifferblattseitig sichtbar zu machen Schweizer Patent Nr. Juli 1905 mit der Patent Nr. Tourbillons sind Konstruktionen, bei der die Unruh samt Spiralfeder und Hemmung in einem drehbaren, offenen Gestell befestigt sind, welches die senkrechten Lagenfehler aufhebt indem es um sich selbst rotiert. Die Unruh ist zentral auf dem Drehgestell angebracht. In dessen Mittelachse ist unter der Unruh das Sekundentrieb, welches vom Sekundenrad getrennt montiert ist und vom Kleinbodenrad angetrieben wird, um das Drehgestell drehen zu können. An der Drehgestell-Mittelachse ist fest auf die Werkplatine das Sekundenrad geschraubt, welches das Hemmungstrieb abrollt und somit das Hemmungsrad antreibt. Breguet erfand um 1800 das Tourbillon und patentierte es 1801. Je nach Bauart kann es unterschiedliche Umlaufzeiten haben. Bei der hier beschriebenen Konstruktion macht es eine Umdrehung pro Minute. Das Tourbillon ist bekannterweise eines der schwierigsten und kompliziertesten Konstruktionen in der Uhrmachergeschichte. This listing is for a large French circa 1890 silver full hunting cased pocket watch. The watch measures 2 inches or 50 mm in diameter. The watch comes complete with a very elaborate watch fob chain ending in a wax seal. This “chain” measures 5 inches long. Well as you can see from the photographs the case is something to see. The entire case is silver with niello work. (Niello and it’s use is detailed below the description for ths watch). The front cover has a “KZ” monogram amongst foliage. The most interesting back cover shows a royal coat of arms. I have not been able to identify this coat of arms. It displays a crowned helm or helmet atop a shield containing only one thing, a large battle ax. Above the helmet another smaller battle ax descends on the royal helmet. Is this a Royal coat of arms or that of a king slayer? . The shield is surrounded by ivy. The inner dust cover is engraved “REMONTOIR SPIRAL BREGUET”. The movement is stem wind and pin set. Meaning you wind the watch from the stem. You set the time by pushing the small button down that is next to the winding stem and then move the winder. The dial is white porcelain with black Roman numerals and black steel hands. The chain is all silver with the exception of a gold plaque on one of the pieces that contains a monogram. Another piece has another helm with a crown. At the bottom is a wax seal which is silver with a rim of gold. The condition is excellent, the dial is immaculate. The only damage is a crack in the covering crystal lens. The case is tight. The watch runs but can definitely use a cleaning and service. Please look at many photos for more on the look of this pocket watch. Black metallic alloy of sulfur with silver, copper, or lead that is used to fill designs that have been engraved on the surface of a metal (usually silver) object. Niello is made by fusing together silver, copper, and lead and then mixing the molten alloy with sulfur. The resulting black-coloured sulfides are powdered, and after the engraved metal, usually silver, has been moistened with a flux, some of the powder is spread on it and the metal strongly heated; the niello melts and runs into the engraved channels. The excess niello is then removed by scraping until the filled channels are clearly visible, and finally the surface is polished. The contrast of the black niello against the bright silver surface produces an attractive decorative effect. There is no reserve.
