The case also has a viewing crystal so you don’t have to take the watch out of it’s case to check the time! Watch is suspended by springs attached to the case to protect it from shock and movement. Army Air Force Pocket Watch is a 16 size (case diameter 51 mm). This is an AN 5740, Master Navigation Watch, with a 1941 contract date and Army Air Force markings (see images case back). The movement is a Hamilton 4992B with a 24-hour dial and a sweep second hand. The watch has 22 jewels and is equipped with the military hacking mechanism. The dial is original and excellent. This is a very sharp example and fully original. The watch is running and keeping reasonable time! It also includes the Navigational Pocket watch case World War II era. Very nice and seldom seen genuine US military issued pocket watch WWII that still has its original shock absorber outer case. These outer cases have all perished over the years. The rubber of this outer case has become hardened over time and I have therefore left it off of the watch. It would be easy to damage if not careful. The watch has a 17J Elgin movement that is very clean and running quite strong. The original dial is excellent and has the minute markers in red. Movement this high grade nickel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a micrometer regulator, a raised centre seconds wheel on the top plate and capped jewel settings. The movement features a hacking function when you pull out the winder to set the hands, the balance will stop enabling you to synchronize with other timepieces.
