Pocket Watch Case

This is a mid 1800′s mechanical duplex Chinese Market Pocket Watch. These watches were made with a silver case, although most were not marked to indicate the makeup. It features a porcelain watch face with roman numerals and is marked in Chinese at the 12 o’clock position. It also has an interior lens. The movement is very ornate and is jeweled. It is designed to be mechanically wound with a key. I don’t have information on what materials were used to design the movement parts. The back protective cover opens with the lever above the 12 o’clock position. Inside lens cover also opens with a small lever. Watch face diameter: 47 mm. Overall watch diameter: 54 mm. Total weight: 92 g. Condition issues(see photos). The watch does not wind (see video). The spring barrel is loose. When attempting to wind, the mechanism springs back. Porcelain watch face is chipped at 8 and 5 o’clock positions. The case has fine scratching, scuffing, and a few dents. Front end lens is missing. Excellent triple case pocket watch for ottoman market by George Prior. The outer and inner case are made of silver. Outer case is decorated with engraving in oriental style. The middle case has some silver parts and some brass and is covered by tortoiseshell. Good quality verge fusee movement is signed by Geo Prior and is numbered. Cock is probably decorated with monogram gk? Movement is in good running condition, it runs in all positions, though I don’t guarantee time keeping. Dial seems to be free from defects. Original beetle & poker hands, mineral glass. The cases are as shown – losses of tortoiseshell. The closing springs was repaired, they are loose, but works. The watch is quite big – outer case measures 57mm wide and 62mm high, thickness is 29mm. Overall weight is 150 grams. He received two awards from Society of Arts.
