Silver pair case generally in good condition. All hinges ok, open and shut well. Also opening button working fine. Original hands in good condition. Original high domed glass in good condition. Original enamel dial in mint condition, no hairlines or cracks. Repeater movement in good condition. Watch working very well. Bell in good condition, no any crack. Bell ringing well when you press the bow, but sound is not good. I think hammers doesn’t touch the bell. Probably need to set bell little bit up or down. Otherwise there is no any fault. Watch comes with old antique key and silver chain. Outer case 54.6 mm without crown, 82.5 mm with bow and crown. 166 gram total weight with watch key and chain. PLEASE CHECK PICTURES FOR DETAIL. The silver repousse outer case is in good general condition which I think depicts a farrier shoeing a horse. The case hinge is tight and the covers meet flush. The catch spring has broken and the catch button missing so doesn’t lock. The inner case is in good general condition and hallmarked for London 1762/3 initials’C. The stem has been re-soldered at sometime past. The outer case measures 50mm in diameter and the inner case 41mm in diameter. The dial and hands are in good general condition. The glass high domed crystal has one small edge chip. The lovely decorative square pillar verge movement is in good general condition. It is signed’W Johnson London 1077′. It has a silvered balance cock and adjacent plates and has a decorative scroll to the end of the steel catch spring. The balance swings fine and the movement runs intermittently, it can run from a few minutes to a few hours so requires a service. Winds and sets fine. The movement is key wind and set, modern keys included (2 keys as wind and set are slightly different sizes). Silver pair cased Verge pocket watch J. Case BN London 1796. A beautifully elegant pair cased verge watch by the famous London maker James Freeman. In a paired case with correct hallmarks for London 1796. Incuse makers mark BN, with pellet between initials is for Bartholomew Need 13 Bridgewater Square and 6 Cross Street Clerkenwell. Mark entered 6.8.1787 (Grimwade section V and VI). Dimensions: Outer case 5.7cm diameter x 2.6cm. Inner case 4.8cms diameter x 2.5cm. Length of watch including suspension loop: 7.6cm. Condition: The enamel face is clear and clean. There is a very faint hairline between 11 and 12 (very hard to see with the naked eye – see photographs). Fob hanger is secure but skew. The outer case is missing its catch button. I have not attempted to wind the watch and the workings appear complete. The workmanship on the movement is exquisite. Items like this shed light onto a distant time and underline the fact that craftsmanship and the ability to make extraordinary things by hand was a common currency. The relief shows the biblical dairy, Judas receives 30 silver coins from the high priests. The scenery is framed by very fine engraved, hammered and impassioned volutes as well as filigree foliage. Large, five-piece outer hinge. The case is signed “Peckruel”? Smooth inner case with case makers punch mark IW, and hard-to-read; English / London Hallmarks with Gothic letters, ie Cycle XV, from 1756 to 1775. Both cases are in excellent condition. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, arabic minute track, original gilded Arrow & bow brass hands, small part missing at the minute hand, dial is in very good condition. YOU ARE BEING OFFERED: an. Unusual European Style Verge Fusee in original Pair Case Pocket Watch Franch London circa 1740. Interesting and unusual highly engraved European Verge Fusee from a noted London watchmaker Franch circa 1740. This one seems to have everything original (except a minute hand missing) waiting for a proper restoration. There are no English hallmarks on this case and the movement is a French Swiss Style. This is an indication that this watch may have been an European made Verge Fusee that was made for the English market. It is also possible that Franch was the London retailer who imported this from Europe. Regardless I have seen variations of this specific movement which indicates that Franch was a very active maker/retailer. The date is best on my best experience of this style of movement and the posts. Please verify you are satisfied with this information before become the next caretaker. No hallmark on case, Both the inner and outer case is marked with 48 which is an indication that the inner and outer cases were originally together. Please note that the hinges on the back of the inner case are broken and the pin through the bezel and movement does not hold. The back of the case to the bezel and movement. However, when closed, everything fits tightly. SIZE: Dial is 41 mm diameter. DIAL: Roman numerals with Franch on dial. Dial is lose with minor chips and hairlines, please see pictures. CONDITION: The chain is detached and still around the fusee barrel. The hook on chain is intact. The balance seems to move freely. A GOOD ANTIQUE 18CT GOLD ENGLISH HUNTER CASE POCKET WATCH, ROTHERHAMS LONDON. Antique, 18CT Gold English Hunter Cased Pocket Watch by Rotherhams of London and dating from c1902. The English, plain, 18 carat gold case is hallmarked with the maker’s mark “JR” for Rotherham & Sons (John Rotherham), the “crown and “18″ for 18 carat gold, the anchor Birmingham town mark and date letter “c for 1902/03. The inner cuvette similarly marked. The English Lever movement is signed by the maker “Rotherhams, London” and serial number 244430. The watch is stem wound and pin set. The white enamel dial is in good overall condition, however does have some faint hairlines. It has the hours in roman numerals and is signed by the maker. The watch measures 51mm in diameter (across the case). The weight is 112.1g. The inner cuvette (dust cover) bears an interesting presentation inscription, the watch presented to a Civil Engineer. Presented to R W Newman Esq. E by Paarl Inhabitants to commemorate his erection of Huguenot Bridge, August 1st 1905.
