Outer case measures 53.5mm in diameter. John Moncas of Liverpool chain driven Fusee movement with dust cover. Includes remnant of original paper label and reproduction key. Fresh out of a local estate collection. Movement is not running. Watch was running when we first acquired it but has since stopped. It might have been over wound, balance wheel still moves freely. C1852 ENGLISH STERLING SILVER PAIR CASED FUSEE. MAKER J PEMBERTON, LIVERPOOL. The inner & outer cases are both Sterling Silver hallmarked Birmingham with date letter D for 1852. Movement is signed JOSh PEMBERTON LIVERPOOL 45896. Movement is very clean and working, but ticking very slowly, will need at least a service. The outer case is 52.2mm in diameter, the inner case is 45.8mm in diameter, the inner case closes well, the outer case is slightly difficult to close. Very nice dial, original bulls eye glass has a lot of wear, missing seconds hand. Hallmarked 1818 which would make it an early lever watch by a man who was early into lever watches. Movt #29424 I believe this to be the real deal as the workmanship is superb in every way. The word patent clearly displayed as well as the name Robt Roskell Liverpool. The hall marks are correct and matching. It is sophisticated enough it has a means by which the watch continues to run even while winding (maintaining power). It takes right off upon even winding it a little(caution wind counter clockwise). This watch is very collectible as it’s a nice English lever watch made at the transition from rack lever to lever making it a very early lever watch, As stated this watch winds sets and runs extremely well. Having good swing to the balance and runs without stopping to the end of the chain. A couple small dents in the outer case is about the only faults I can find. The enamel dial and gold hour and minute hands look original and perfect.. The bulls eye glass appropriately shows a little wear. There is 2 watch papers from various places and a blank piece of very old paper inside the outer case. Thank You and happy collecting. Adding to the description i found a list of serial numbers for this maker and it would put the movt at 1824 even though the case hallmarks are 1818.. I have no idea if makers fitted to the case or vice versa. Also this doesnt appear to be a rack lever but rather an english lever / Massey Lever watch. Amazing Mint condition super clean English made by John Bent of Liverpool with super low Serial no. 182 Silver pair cased verge fusee. Sharp Solid sterling silver case is Silver hall marked (a) 1798 of Birmingham assay. Beautiful Outstanding mint condition white colored porcelain dial with nice Bold Black numbers and Beautiful large thick light Gold hands. The dial shows no chips or hairlines at all and is truly beautiful. Absolutely spotless high domed bullseye crystal. All case covers open, close and fit perfect together with nice and tight hinges. Key wind and key set pocket watch runs full length of chain. Balance has nice motion. The balance bridge is beautiful With its unique Urn and ornate scroll work. The movement is near mint with sharp blue screws and a Spotless silver disked index for regulating. Pocket watch measures a nice large 56mm excluding the bow. Pocket watch runs outstanding and keeps great fusee time, last checked it was running +/- 2 minutes within approx. 24 hour period hanging from a hook in the vertical position…….. But cannot guarantee accuracy upon sale. These watches are verge type. Meant to keep time, not perfect time 219 years ago. Also special care must be taken not to overwind these old museum pieces and always remember to wind counter clockwise. Inside the case is a fragile old watch makers paper from Pwllheli, Wales. This watch bears the Birmingham hallmark “h” for the year 1831 and the case was made by Thomas Spicer”TS” of Coventry. The watch doesn’t run but does have a good balance staff. I note the chain between fusee and barrel is detached at the barrel. The hook appears to still be there. The dial is gold toned with some multicolor touches at the edge. Glass crystal can rotate but stays put. Dust cover over the movement. The movement with a diamond endstone. Of the movement and case match. I would guess cased in the USA. The covers open and close fine. There is a bit of smoothing to edges of the case. Also some scratches and small bent area at cutout for winding key. Hands with some bends. Hinges are good on the case. The diameter is about 50.32mm. The watch weighs 105.8 grams.
