VERY GOOD, RARE ANTIQUE ENGLISH SILVER CONSULAR CASED VERGE FUSEE POCKET WATCH LONDON c1859. Antique, early Victorian gentleman’s sterling silver, consular cased, verge fusee Pocket Watch by Debois & Wheeler of London. The firm of Desbois & Wheeler were well respected makers of good quality watches. The English made, sterling silver case is in good condition. It has full English hallmarks for sterling silver. The case maker’s mark “EH”, the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Leopard’s Head London town mark and the date letter “d” for 1859/60. The rear of the case with engine turned engraving and a central cartouche that is free of initials. He white enamel dial is in very good condition for it’s age, only some little nibbles and some very short hairlines on the edge. It has the hours in Roman numerals. The good quality verge movement is signed “Desbois & Wheeler, London” and has the serial number 1631. The watch measures 49mm in diameter (across the case, excluding the winding crown). Overall, this is a good example, it would make a lovely addition to any collection. Thank you for viewing this listing from. This is a fine example of a French Consular Cased Pocket watch made popular and supposedly preferred by Napoleon and probably made around the late 18th or early 19th Century. The front border has been finely engraved further showing the quality throughout the piece. The movement seems to be working although I have only tested it over a short time could probably do with a clean and service. Hallmarked: NB & French mark as photoed. Width: 4.5cm approx. ANTIQUE 14K SOLID GOLD CONSULAR CASED JOSH? JOHNSON LEVER FUSEE POCKET WATCH! The inside of the case back has a crown with an 18 under it but this tests at 14k gold rather than 18k. The watch doesn’t run but does have a good balance staff. I note the chain between fusee and barrel is detached at the barrel. The hook appears to still be there. The dial is gold toned with some multicolor touches at the edge. Glass crystal can rotate but stays put. Dust cover over the movement. The movement with a diamond endstone. Of the movement and case match. I would guess cased in the USA. The covers open and close fine. There is a bit of smoothing to edges of the case. Also some scratches and small bent area at cutout for winding key. Hands with some bends. Hinges are good on the case. The diameter is about 50.32mm. The watch weighs 105.8 grams. THE DIAL IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND I DO NOT SEE ANY HAIRLINES. THE MINUTE HAND IS MISSING. THEERE IS A ROTATING COVER OVER THE WINDING HOLE ON THE BACK, THE CRYSTAL IS CLEAR AND LOOKS LIKE PLASTIC. IT HAS BEAUTIFUL ENGRAVING ON THE BACK PLATE AND THE WATCH COCK HAS A WIDE FOOT. IT RAN TO THE END OF THE CHAIN AND WHEN I WOUND IT ONE TURN IT TOOK OFF RUNNING.
