THIS IS A RARE WW1 FRENCH MADE MEDICAL CHRONOGRAPH POCKET WATCH. IT DATES FROM THE WW1 PERIOD OF 1914-18. IT IS SIGNED ON THE DIAL CHRONOMETRE MEDICAL. IT ALSO IS SIGNED AROUND THE EDGE OF THE DIAL CALCULE POUR 20 PULSATIONS THEN NUMBERS DOWN FROM 200 TO 30, THIS IS FOR USE IN TAKING THE PULSE OF PATIENTS. IT IS SIGNED UNDER THE BALANCE WHEEL DEPOSE. IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, WITH JUST VERY MINOR NATURAL AGE TO THE GUN METAL CASE. IT HAS SOME STAINING, AND WEAR TO THE BACK OF THE CASE, JUST YEARS OF RUBBING, IN THE POCKET AND HAND. THE PETAL DESIGN WINDER HAS ONE PETAL MISSING NOW. THE ENAMEL DIAL HAS NO HAIRLINES AT ALL, JUST ONE TINY NIBBLE CHIP ON THE EDGE, BUT IT CANT REALLY BE SEEN AS ITS UNDER THE CASE RIM. THE GLASS IS QUITE CLEAN, WITH MINOR SCUFF MARKS. THE WATCH HAS A 30 MINUTE CHRONOGRAPH ON THE UPPER INSET DIAL, WITH A CENTRE CHRONO HAND. THE CHRONOGRAPH RUNS WELL, RESETTING TO ZERO AS IT SHOULD. THE WATCH ALSO RUNS WELL, KEEPING GOOD TIME. Up for sale is a beautiful and rare French silver case half quarter repeater verge fusee antique pocket watch, circa 1760. The watch has not been cleaned and serviced but the movement is in good working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain very smoothly and keeps very good time. 80 minutes fast for 24 hours – very good time keeping for an early verge like this. The half quarter repeater functions well and sounds loud and clear. The movement: Three arm gilt balance. Beautiful engraved balance cock. Push pendant half quarter repeater, two hammers on a bell. The beautiful fire gilt movement is signed. Ch’ Leroy, A Paris. The maker is a. Member of the great LEROY family of watchmakers in Paris in the 18th century. The case: Silver, near mint condition. Beautiful engraving on the side with holes for the repeaters sound. It is a large and heavy pocket watch. The silver case is 49 mm wide. The watch weighs 106 grams. The extremely early original enamel dial has Roman numerals. Three restoration spots – as you can notice in the pictures. A lovely high domed bulls eye clear crystal glass. Beautiful verge fusee watch from French Regency Epoch, circa 1720s-1730s. Very rare porcelain (over brass base) case, really hard to find. It’s decorated with painting of allegory of love on the back side – cherub in carriage driven by doves. The inner side of back cover and front cover are decorated with painted flowers. Movement is signed by Baillon a Paris. Baillon – is well known French watchmaking dynasty, known from mid-XVII. Probably, production of Etienne Baillon, installed in Paris from 1704 (died 1748). Beautiful porcelain dial with bold numbers, beetle and pocker hands – it looks a little “British”. Movement is very nice, with big balance bridges of typical French Regency style. This early movement features barrel with worm, square baluster pillars and almost none escapement regulations. After Julien Le Roy inventions of mid XVIII, these was features are impossible to find in French movements. The movement is in good working condition – works in every position. The porcelain of case has cracks and couple of minor reparation to the border. The dial has hairlines and reparation near winding hole. Diameter of outer case is 50mm, inner is 55mm. ANTIQUE 18KT GOLD J. VERY IMPORTANT ITEM INFORMATION, PLEASE READ! French it has stunning Niello Enamel on front and back covers. The face has a beautiful Damascene design of a Village Scene. On front there is a fancily engraved Lion with Shield surrounded by flowers and scrolls, the Shield would be perfect for Monogramming. This is accented by Black Niello Enamel. On back are more scrolls and flowers in an Urn with Black Niello Enamel. It is marked “18K” on the ball at the top and inside the case “K 18″, it’s heavy, it weighs 69.4 grams or 2.44 ounces, of course some of that weight is the inner works. Circa 1830 it does have some issues, glass is missing over the face as is the 6, there is a spot of missing enamel on the Lion and we don’t have the key so we have no idea if it works You will also receive a black ribbon pocketwatch chain. This listing is for a large French circa 1890 silver full hunting cased pocket watch. The watch measures 2 inches or 50 mm in diameter. The watch comes complete with a very elaborate watch fob chain ending in a wax seal. This “chain” measures 5 inches long. Well as you can see from the photographs the case is something to see. The entire case is silver with niello work. (Niello and it’s use is detailed below the description for ths watch). The front cover has a “KZ” monogram amongst foliage. The most interesting back cover shows a royal coat of arms. I have not been able to identify this coat of arms. It displays a crowned helm or helmet atop a shield containing only one thing, a large battle ax. Above the helmet another smaller battle ax descends on the royal helmet. Is this a Royal coat of arms or that of a king slayer? . The shield is surrounded by ivy. The inner dust cover is engraved “REMONTOIR SPIRAL BREGUET”. The movement is stem wind and pin set. Meaning you wind the watch from the stem. You set the time by pushing the small button down that is next to the winding stem and then move the winder. The dial is white porcelain with black Roman numerals and black steel hands. The chain is all silver with the exception of a gold plaque on one of the pieces that contains a monogram. Another piece has another helm with a crown. At the bottom is a wax seal which is silver with a rim of gold. The condition is excellent, the dial is immaculate. The only damage is a crack in the covering crystal lens. The case is tight. The watch runs but can definitely use a cleaning and service. Please look at many photos for more on the look of this pocket watch. Black metallic alloy of sulfur with silver, copper, or lead that is used to fill designs that have been engraved on the surface of a metal (usually silver) object. Niello is made by fusing together silver, copper, and lead and then mixing the molten alloy with sulfur. The resulting black-coloured sulfides are powdered, and after the engraved metal, usually silver, has been moistened with a flux, some of the powder is spread on it and the metal strongly heated; the niello melts and runs into the engraved channels. The excess niello is then removed by scraping until the filled channels are clearly visible, and finally the surface is polished. The contrast of the black niello against the bright silver surface produces an attractive decorative effect. There is no reserve.
