In my opinion and I can assure you it is one that is shared amongst most collectors I know, this watch is considered to be one of the finest railroad watches ever made. Maybe even the best made by an American founded company. It was kept in a WW2 veteran’s safe for years in the back of a closet. Now I feel it is time to go to someone who can truly appreciate it. I will entertain reasonable offers. No scratches or cracks in crystal face. First manufactured in 1941. Very low serial number. This watch was produced in 1947. Thats only 6 years into production! That’s out of almost 30k that where produced during that period that they where manufactured. On the inside of the back of the case is etched “10k gold filled”. The porcelain dial is white and features black Arabic numbers with a subsidiary seconds dial upon the sixth hour. Below the twelve hour it states “Hamilton 23 Jewels Railway Special”. Upon opening the back you will see that the movement is presented on a bridge plate and is engraved Hamilton Watch Co U. A”, “950B 23 Jewels”, serial number “S4538″, and “ADJ. Each gold gear and Ruby balance stone shines as bright as it did the day it left Hamilton’s show room floor. It has and forever will stand the test of time. This has the lowest serial number on the market at the moment! Keep that in mind. Price reflects this fact. This is a working pair case pocket watch. Made in 1769 by Squire Murgatroyd. Movement is beautifully engraved, signed and has the date. I did try to find some history but i couldnt. All i found was this watch was serviced in halifax during the 1900s. Its possible i have mis spelled the name but i think im correct. Its solid silver and both the case and the watch is fully hallmarked. The watch is working and keeping time. As with all these watches i only ever half wind them, i dont like putting too much pressure on these fusee chains. The watch is currently sat here ticking away and keeping time on a two hour test. The watch measures 43mm. And the case itself measures 53mm side to side. Please view all pictures. Any questions please ask. “M INTY” HAMILTON 992B RAILROAD GRADE POCKET WATCH. Because of my age I must sell watches in my collection. The 992B was the last Railroad Grade pocket watch designed by the Hamilton Watch Company. It took about 10 years, from 1931 to 1040, to complete the design. The first 992B from the new design was produced in 1940. Hamilton continued production of 992B’s for Railroad Service until they closed their doors in 1969. This marked the end of American made Railroad Grade pocket watches. This watch is a 1961, Model 5, 992B, 21 Jewels, Adjusted 6 Positions, with a Melamine 121 Heavy Gothic Double Sunk dial in a screw back and bezel Yellow Gold Filled Hamilton #17 case made by the Star Watch Case Company. The Model #17 case was introduced in 1957. This watch, movement SN C474967 was made in 1961. The movement was Produced, Cased and Timed at the Hamilton Watch Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The watch is in Excellent condition and keeps good time. I don’t know when it was last cleaned so to keep “Railroad Time” again it would need to be serviced.
