Silver pocket watch, pair cases, verge, champleve dial – London, 1748. Silver pair cases, 49.75mm. An early London verge, with a fine champleve dial. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with wide D shaped foot. Four square baluster pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws. The balance cock table has a small bracket on the edge, which allows it to be stabilised by a screw to the top plate. This feature is occasionally found on London watches of this period. Running well, and in good condition with a small repair visible to the base of the fusee cone where the chain is attached. Wright, LONDON and numbered (5034). DIAL : A fine silver champleve dial, in excellent condition. Signed WRIGHT, LONDON on the central disc. Good 18th century steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : Silver, with worn hallmarks for London, 1748, makers mark? L and movement serial number (5034). In quite good condition, with a few light bruises to the band and the pendant has been reattached. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bulls eye crystal is fine. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with no hallmarks. Again again reasonable condition, but the catch and catch button are missing so the case does not snap shut. Gold pocket watch, repousse pair cases, champleve dial – Kipling, London, 1727. Gold repousse pair cases, 50 mm. An early London verge pocket watch, in fine gold repousse pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock. Four square baluster pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws. Kipling, LONDON and numbered (1635). The movement is in very good original condition, and is running well. DIAL : Wonderful gold champleve dial, signed Kipling, LONDON. All in fine condition. Good earl;y 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : 22ct gold, with London hallmarks for 1727, makers mark TP and movement serial number (1635). In reasonable condition but with some light bruises and slight compression around the band, and a short split to the band, just to the left of the hinge. Original bow and stem, though the stem has been reattached. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : A wonderful gold repousse pair case, decorated with a scene showing a winged cherub, a woman in the centre playing a lute, and a dog to the right, all under a tree. Animals, a bird and fish around the edge of the back, and fine scroll decoration to the bezel. In very good condition, with just some light wear to the high points, mainly to the central figure. One short crack on the inside of the bezel at the catch (this is where the gold band was joined to form the bezel). The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. William Kipling is listed in London between 1705 and 1737. The case maker is probably Thomas Potts of Fleet Street, London. Verge Fusee champleve dial Silver Pair Cased Pocket Watch. This is a lovely example of an early champleve dial pocket watch. It was made I’m between 1690 and 1700 and is all original and in working order. The case is made from silver and stamped with the silversmith “LD” we don’t know who that was as the silver records office burned down many years ago and all the records went with it. But the case its self is a pair case. Overall they are in good condition. This is a champleve dial and is totally original it has got the watchmakers name on the front (rodet) and where it was made (London). All the original wax is still in place and the dial has not been over rubbed. The watch still has its original hand as well which are made from pierced blue steel. This is an exceptional movement that is of the finest quality. It has Egyptian pillars and a verge escarpment. The parts are all original in the movement and the balance cock is lovely. The watch has recently been serviced and keeps fantastic time overall this is a lovely watch. The watch will come with a winding key. Here we offer a very rare Irish Verge Fusee Pocket Watch, which has a Silver Champleve Dial, signed Coote, Dublin which is in very good condition. It bears the Case Makers Mark W N on the inner and outer. The Movement is signed Thos. Coote, Dublin; is working very well, but runs very slowly, in the dial down position. It is Key Wound on the Back and and Key Set on the Dial and bears the low sn 133. Note the early grotesque Face of Chronos on the cock. H Bailie lists Thomas Coote in Dublin from 1733 to 1747. He is listed as a Quarter Brother in 1733 in Watch and Clockmakers in Ireland, by William Galland Stuart : (Edited by David Boles). The Verge Fusee Movement has Egyptian Pillars and is in very good cosmetic and working condition. It was recently Serviced by my Watchmaker and runs very slow in the dial down position over 24 hours. It will tick for a short time in the dial up position and stop. It is housed in Silver Pair Cases, stamped with the Makers Mark W N. The Outer measures 50mm in diameter and is in very good condition. The 43mm Watch Case is also in Excellent condition and is 20mm deep (25.4mm =1 inch). The 38mm Silver Champleve Dial is in very good condition. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs well C + or – 2-3 minutes per hour.
