Pocket Watch Case

Beautiful big and solid pair cased verge fusee onion watch, circa 1700. Signed by Fromantel & Clarke. Both inner and outer cases are made of solid 22k gold. This watch was probably produced for French clientele, outer case is decorated with arabesques in style of French Louis XIV onions. Watch is very nice, high quality piece. It also features date indication. The movement made in manner of 1700s, features beautiful pierced & engraved cock with D-shaped leg, tulip pillars, steel balance bridge. Fromanteel & Clarke Ahasuerus I Fromanteel was member of Blacksmith company in 1630 and member of Clockmaking Company in 1632. He was the first, who introduced pendulum clocks in England. His son, Ahasuerus II became member of Clockmaking Company in 1663. In 1680, Ahasuerus II Fromanteel moved from London to Amsterdam, where he started in 1693 patnership with his son-in-law, Christopher Clarke. Ahasuerus II Fromanteel died in 1703, but Clarke used this signature till 1720. Please note, that watch is big and thick, much larger than pair cases watches of mid-XVIII. The weight only the two cases are about 77 grams, total weight is 156 grams. Diameter of outer case is 56mm, thickness is 30mm. Condition The porcelain dial in Dutch style is in good condition with couple of tiny, hardly visible imperfections – near center and the spring that locks movement in case. Movement is in running condition, works in every position, but I don’t guarantee time keeping. Case is in good condition, though engraving is worn in the center, as you can see on the photos. Very nice big and thick Dutch verge fusee watch. The dial and movement are signed by Jan van Ceulen Le Jeune – Hagae. The watch is very nice. It features repousse silver outer case in truly remarkable, hard to find condition, with most delicate details preserved. The silver champleve dial is made in British style, without typical Dutch style wavy minute circle. The cock with D-shaped leg has symmetrical design and is decorated with fairy birds. It’s very finely made with attention to small details. Movement also feature nice openwork tulip pillars. Jean (Jan, John) van Ceulen Le Jeune is member of famous Dutch clockmaking dynasty. His watch from 1700 is described in Britten’s classical book p. Baillie book also mentions watches by van Ceulen Le Jeune in Ashmolean collection and watch with enamels of Huaud brothers. Condition Condition is quite nice. Dial is in good condition with few minor defects. Movement is running in every position though I don’t guarantee time keeping. The silver case appears to be in good condition. Outer case diameter is 57mm, height is 61mm, thickness is 34mm. Very nice watch in good collector condition. Video will open in a new window. Georgian Verge watch outer case. Pinchbeck with shell covering or underpainted? Aged understandably for over 200 years old!!! Splits and wear but what is good about this case is cover on the bezel which is often missing. Fantastic condition Georgian strong hinge!!! Needs catch and button. Here is a nice working English Verge Fusee Repousse Sterling Silver Pair Case with a Hand Painted Fancy Dial. This is a Gentleman’s Pocket Watch and it comes with two keys! The Maker appears to be S. The Serial number is 8000 which is also marked on the inner case! Judging by the various Hallmarks this would be Circa: 1750- 80′s. DIAL: This fancy porcelain dial displays Roman numerals and has mismatched Gold filigree hands. MOVT: This key-set movement with verge escapement is gilt with a full plate layout and is signed. The case is in very good condition-worn and the Silver button opens and locks the outer case nicely! 16-size 50mm pair case features an open face and repousse decorations and. It also has London Sterling Silver Hallmarks on the inner case! Now the dial has hairline cracks! And the Crystal has some minor scratches!
