Pocket Watch Case

This is a very nice antique watch from a local estate. It measures 48mm in diameter (outer Case). The watch is in a plain silver pair case. The movement has square pillars, verge fusee, pierced balance cock, signed Cha Bifield 4787 LONDON. The movement is in very good condition, and runs. The white porcelain dial is original. It does have an edge chip at the bottom. The outer pair case has no marks whatsoever. The inner case has 2 marks visible that are rubbed and hard to read. I can see the lion silver standard, and the other mark looks like the crowned leopard head. There is also a case makers mark that looks like an HT to me. The outer case has some side dents from normal age and use. It has a good strong case lock spring. The watch has a plastic replacement crystal. A key is included. The mineral crystal is free from chips and scratches. Hinges and catches are all working correctly. The outer sterling silver case measures 57mm x 24mm. The inner sterling silver case measures 51mm x 23mm. At RomanDial all our watches are fully serviced. The service includes complete strip down of the movements to its component parts. All parts are cleaned checked for wear, oiled and reassembled. We then test the movement for at least seven days to check for accuracy and reliability. While the movement is out of the case we clean and polish, check all hinges catches and clips are operating correctly. We replace the mineral glass with new (old stock) mineral glass. All our watches come with winding key if required. We aim for an accuracy of 1-2 minutes for lever watches and 2-5 minutes or verge watches. Rare and BIG VERGE FUSEE Pocket Watch made by Richard Eade. NEAR TO MINT CONDITION!! Recently professionally serviced and in great working condition! Runs the full length of the chain with a hard sounding tick and keeping fantastic good verge time, about 2 minutes deviation per 24 hr runtime. (please do not expect quartz time accuracy from a 158 years old pocket watch which are collectors items and not meant to wear). The movement shines like it was made yesterday, is signed “Richard Eade Steyning” and bears the serial number 93529. Nice original SOLID silver hands. All covers close with a tight fit as it should. Enamel dial looks perfect! Old glass looks perfect! Original old watchpaper included. Both cases have the same hallmarks for London 1860. Case solid sterling silver, hand polished and looking great. An early silver pair cased pocket watch with a lovely decorative square pillar verge movement signed’JL Wynne, ALRESFORD No291′ , dating to circa 1800, in good general condition and working order, although does seem to stop on occasion, so would benefit from a service. John Lawrence Wynne is listed as working in Alresford Hants. The inner and outer silver cases are in good general condition but are not original. I believe they have been made to measure for the movement at a later date. The only markings on the case are initials’MBW’ on the inner case, see photo. No hallmarks so presumably white metal not solid silver. The outer case measures 50mm diameter and the inner case 41mm diameter. The bulls-eye glass crystal is in good condition. The convex enamel dial has a little damage, refer to photos. The beetle and poker hands are in good condition. The decorative fusee movement has a verge escapement, with a pierced and engraved balance cock, square baluster pillars and includes a calendar function (see photo with dial removed). The movement catch spring has a lovely scroll decorative finish to the end. The movement is in working order, the calendar function is in working order, it appears to keep reasonable time, although does stop on occasion so would benefit from a service. The movement is signed’J. L Wynne, ALRESFORD’ and numbered’291′. The movement is key wind and set which work fine, modern key included.
