Illinois 18s Pocket Watch. 17 Jewel Grade 65. Brackl Frayser Los Angeles Dial with Fortune Case. This is a running Illinois Watch Co. Pocket watch in its original nickel Fortune Trade Mark case, made in Springfield, Illinois in 1903. This is a Grade 65, an 18-size, 17-jewel, Adjusted full-plate movement with bright damaskeening and the distinctive Illinois decorative regulator. Serial number 1754975 for a 1903 production. The porcelain dial is private labeled “Brackl Frayser – Los Angeles, ” an early California jeweler who retailed Illinois watches in the early 20th century. The watch runs when wound and has been observed running steadily. No further timing or long-duration tests have been performed. As with all antique mechanical watches, a professional cleaning/oiling is recommended for long-term reliability. Illinois Watch Co. Serial 1,754,975 – 1903. Grade 65, Model 5. Bow tight and functional. This is a strong, complete Illinois 17-jewel watch with correct case and a scarce Los Angeles jeweler’s dial. Running when wound; no accuracy guarantee. Dial clean with expected light age (no distracting cracks from what is visible). Blued hands intact and correct. Case shows normal antique wear but no abuse – hinges secure. Movement appears clean and untampered with. Condition is overall very good, running but in need of service (see images).
