50mm (5cm) across case without crown. A stunning gold filled full hunter. The case is a Dennison MOON 20 year guaranteed (from date of manufacture) each part is made from 2 plates of 10ct gold with a plate of composition between them, vastly superior to electroplating which only deposits a very thin layer of gold. Good condition case, very clean and bright throughout, all hinges are good, all covers open and close well. Front cover pops open with a depression of the crown, as it should. Front and rear covers open to 90 degrees. Fantastic condition case, no marks or scratches worth mentioning. The dial is bright and clean, no hairline cracks or chips, signed “Waltham”. Arabic numbers, gold hands. The movement is a Waltham model 1899 dating to 1907, damascened, gold adjuster star, gold center wheel, running well and keeps good time. Good acrylic crystal in great condition. Great for wedding, graduation, retirement, Christmas, Fathers day or birthday present. Recently Fully Serviced, including modern alloy “unbreakable” mainspring. Presented in a fitted, red velvet pocket watch box with brass trim. Servicing is defined as the piece being disassembled, cleaned, inspected and adjusted if necessary. It is then re-assembled and correctly oiled, timed for accuracy and adjusted if required. The mainspring will be replaced with a modern alloy type and the piece will be bench-tested for at least one day. I restore all of my watches to a fully working condition. It is my aim to provide a watch that is not only running but working to a usable state. My watches can be worn and used for their intended purpose on a daily basis. English Verge Fusee Pre 1700 Pair Case with Original Silver Dial Gents Pocket Watch England; G. Baker; Mans; Circa: 1695 COMPLICATIONS: Early verge. CASE: The sterling silver 20-size, 57mm plain pare case features an open face. DIAL: This silver dial displays Roman numerals, poker hands, and is signed London. MOVT: This key-set movement with verge/fusee escapement, is gilt, with a full plate layout, and is signed. The original dial gives this watch a special edge. Pair Case Higher end early verge fusee watches were often in a pair case. Pair case refers to when a pocket watch is placed within another case (nesting), therefore two cases. The outter protective case is often very decorative. There are also watches, such as those made for the Turkish Market, that had up to four cases, each nesting perfectly within each other and keeping the inner watch safe from damage. Key-wind/Key-set Movements The very first pocket watches up until the third quarter of the 19th century had key-wind and key-set movements. A watch key was necessary to wind the watch and to set the time. This was usually done by opening the case back and putting the key over the winding-arbor (which was set over the watch’s winding-wheel, to wind the mainspring) or by putting the key onto the setting-arbor, which was connected with the minute-wheel and turned the hands. Some watches of this period had the setting-arbor at the front of the watch, so that removing the crystal and bezel was necessary to set the time. Verge Fusee Escapement Used in antique spring-powered mechanical watches and clocks, a fusee is a cone-shaped pulley with a helical groove around it, wound with a cord or chain which is attached to the mainspring barrel.
