Very fine original iron black beetle and poker hands. DIAL Champleve is in perfect condition with the makers name HAYDON LONDON. NOTE the mark at IV is the catch to lift the movement out. The glass is very very high domed bull nose mineral clean and clear. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs very well the time keeping is great + or – 1-2 minuets per hour. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OVER 300 TO RUN THIS WELL WHAT A GREAT WATCHMAKER HAYDON WAS. With a very fine engraved back plate with the makers name Wm HAYDON LONDON with an exceptional decorated balance cock with a grotesque face and an angel’s face. Important Onion pair case Repousse watch Charles Cabrier 1725. Son of the watchmaker Charles Cabrier, from London. The figurative decorated outer case was made by Londons silversmith Mauris. Pair case made of silver. Outer repoussé case with figurative relief like made scenery. At the lower edge the signature of silversmith Mauris. The inner case is smooth. Both cases are located in a very nice state of preservation. Glass with just minimal traces of wearing. Enamel dial with Roman hours I to XII and Arabic minutes. The dial is in very nice condition. Fold out gilt full plate movement with verge escapement, chain and fusee. Elaborately decorated and pierced movement pillars. Intricately engraved and sawn balance cock. Three armed brass balance wheel. The clean movement is working properly. Overall, the watch is in excellent, very nice and good working condition. Size Diameter 55mm, weight 132g. Charles Cabrier II: Charles Cabriers father (a French watchmaker who emigrated to England after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes) and his son – Charles Cabrier I and III – were both reputed makers as well. Cabrier himself began his apprenticeship in 1719, was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1726 on and a master from 1757 until 1772. Until 1759 he had a workshop in 79 Broad Street, near Finsbury Circus; he then moved to Pig Street – which does not exist anymore – near Threadneedle Street. The watch we have here may have been a joint effort by Charles Cabrier II and his son. Baillie mentions Charles Cabrier II as a “famous maker”, Britten calls him a “celebrated maker”. Up for sale is an interesting sterling silver repousse English verge fusee pocketwatch with a fancy painted dial. The outer case is about 47mm in diameter. The repousse scene shows some wear. The porcelain dial has a wonderful painted scene. The dial has a few hairlines and a small chip on the number 25. The painted section is fine. The glass crystal is not high domed like it should be, and the cannon pinion has been shortened to accommodate the lower crystal. The movement is signed Wm Crayton London. The fusee movement runs for a while, and then stops. Due to the nature of verge movements, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the watch or that the movement will run continuously. Here we have have for sale a beautiful early 19th century George III period verge fusee pairs cased solid hallmarked silver pocket watch. The inner and outer case are both hallmarked for Birmingham 1809 and have the makers mark for William Howard, the exquisite watch movement is marked Brawd London No 123002 and the watch has its original glass and enamel dial. The outer case is missing its button but is in over wise good order with minor dents, scratches and tarnish. The watch case is in good condition for its age, there is noticeable tarnish and light surface scratches, plus engraved initials WB, the original glass is in good condition, the dial is in reasonable condition, the is a small chip to the enamel (not noticeable when the watch is closed) and cracks and marks. The verge fusee movement appears appears to be in good condition but unfortunately I have not been able test it as I have no key, however the balance wheel does spin for a few seconds. A superb example that would make a fine addition to any quality horology collection. This item will be sent. Montre Verge 18ème boitier or rose. Verge pocket watch gold case. Franz Joseph Pompejo in Wien. Cette montre avec échappement à verge semble dater de 1790 d’après un petit poinçon au fond du boitier. Elle fonctionne si on la remonte, précision aléatoire de part la nature même de la montre. Toute la longueur de la chaîne du barillet est utilisée sur la durée du fonctionnement. Un nettoyage serait toutefois bienvenu. Le cadran est d’origine et à calendrier. Il manque toutefois la roue d’entraînement sous le cadran et l’aiguille. Le cadran est en très bon état, un léger éclat autour du carré de remontage. Le mouvement est signé Franz Joseph Pompejo in Wien, cet horloger né en 1754 en Suisse semble avoir été actif à Vienne dès 1785. Plusieurs montres existent encore aujourd’hui. Le boitier savonnette est en or rose, visiblement 14k. L’état est moyen, le couvercle est percé au milieu à cause du pinion canon des aiguilles, le ressort d’ouverture ainsi que la fermeture ne sont plus fonctionnels, le reste du boitier est par contre impeccable et sans bosses. Les gravures sur le pourtour du boitier sont encore visibles et en bon état. Antique 1790 verge pocket watch, made in Wien by Franz Joseph Pompejo, watchmaker born in Switzeland in 1754, registered on Wien in 1785. A small mark in the case dates the watch to 1790. A few watches of this watchmaker still exist today. The movement is running, but accuracy if of course 18th century… Cleaning and oiling required. This is a calender pocket watch, the dial is original, but the cog and hand of the calender mechanism are missing. The dial itself is in great shape, just a chip around the winding hole. The hunter pink gold case seems to be 14k, the condition is average. The front cover is dented and the hands pinion pierced a hole in it. The opening and closing springs are not working. LARGE SHAGREEN & SILVER PAIR CASE FRENCH VERGE FUSEE (WITH MOCK PENDULUM) POCKET WATCH. A 18th century Shagreen and Silver pair cased verge fusee pocket watch. The outer Shagreen case with pin-work detail is finely decorated with a large Silver Fleur de lis French Coat of arms, the inner plain polished silver case (housing the movement) has European silver markings including the initials ALI. It has a champleve dial with Arabic numerals, the dial centre section depicts two birds and it has beetle & Poker hands. A very unusual movement with old style square pillars. A filigree cock-foot frame incorporating a Silver Tompion style disc regulator and a F. Rench bridge type silver balance cock. Engraved with an Angel figure. The cock is open at the bottom to reveal a mock pendulum which swings with the motion of the balance wheel. Below are the words “De Tyd”. It has a chain driven fusee and a verge escapement. The dial is signed Edward Neweren, London, disregarding the place name this pocket watch is most likely to be of French/European origin rather than English home grown. The outer case measures a large 55mm (approx 2) in diameter, the combined weight including movement is 102 grammes. Condition : The outer shagreen case is in very good condition without any splits or cracks, each and every one of the 26 pinwork are all intact. The inner silver case is also in good condition without any dents or dings. The movement is good strong running order, running the full length of the fusee chain without stopping and keeping to good time for a verge movement of this age. Both case covers open and close correctly with good strong hinges and both case cover latches work correctly. Its imperishable shagreen case and the accurate verge movement is a testament to the skills of its 18th century European makers and irrefutable.
