There are multiple high definition super-sized pictures at the bottom of this page. A very good looking well made and decorative pocket watch, it is a Goliath as mentioned which is about 30% larger than a standard pocket watch. The case is in lovely antique condition, its easel backed so you can use this table mounted, I think the idea was protection and to sit on a bedside table or desk so you dont have to whip out your watch every time you need to check the clock. The watch has a white porcelain hand painted dial with blue hands, its signed Asprey Bond Street London, Swiss made, it has the normal minute and hour hands and then under a seconds subsidiary dial. The case is silver plated I think as I cant see any hallmarks, it does have lots of engraving including the word Argentan, Swiss and serial numbers. The back opens as one back plate, the original paper label is there which reads J Mortimer FBHI practical watchmaker jeweller 18 Kirkgate Ripon, you then open the second back plate which is also engraved with serial numbers and the word Argentan. The watch movement is protected by a glass plate which of course makes this an exhibition case. The watch operates perfectly and has a lovely sound. Date letter Q for 1915. We only sell 100% AUTHENTIC items. We are offering this amazing Verge Fusee Pair Case Pocket Watch circa 1730-50 which means it is 250+years old. It is a timepiece that if you are an ancient watch lover that you shouldnt pass up since it comes with all of the goodies: Running Verge Fusee movement with good chain, skeletonized balance cock cover and parts of the top plate, Tompian regulator, Roman/Greco pillars, and last but not least a beautiful outer tortoise shell. Even after two and half centuries the tortoise shell is in great condition with just a section that has gone cracked and missing as well as having some fracture lines. Generally speaking this is still a very presentable outer case in near complete condition. The center back section is near flawless with only damages to the edges. The outer case measures 47.5mm and has old watch papers lining inside. All of the bells and whistles of an antique pocket watch is there, poker & beetle hands, bulls eye crystal, and a complete verge fusee movement. The watch itself likewise is also in very presentable condition, it runs quite well that only a few rounds of winding it ticks quite nicely. The original enamel dial has chip to 25 min mark and hs some outer hairlines, but overall it is in near complete condition. The gold gilding on the cases is generally intact with exception to the pendant part of the outer case. The inner case gold gilding is nearly fully intact and shines beautifully. Even the bulls eye crystal appears to be original. Inner case is 39.5mm in diameter. Return can be made if the item received significantly deviate from the lot description and must be made within 3 days after receiving item.
