Gilt pocket watch, repousse case, verge – Godfrie Poy, London, c1720. Gilt repousse case, 55.5 mm. A fine English verge with gilt dial, in a very unusual repousse case showing St. George and the Dragon. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with a wide D shaped foot and engraved mask. Four Egyptian pillars and large silver regulator disk. Ruby endstone, held within a blued steel cap. Signed Godfrie Poy, LONDON. In very good condition and working. The only fault being that the two blued screws holding the endstone cap do not match, so one is a replacement. DIAL : Very unusual steel dial, with gilded reserves. Early 18th century steel beetle and poker hands. CASE : Substantial gilt case, with no makers mark. Repousse work to the bezel and back. The back features a wonderful scene of St. In good condition throughout. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case snaps shut. The high dome crystal is perfect. The movement is wound from the back, so although the unusual dial and case appear to be 18thc. They may not be original to the movement. However neither the dial plate of the movement nor the dial false plate have been modified and the movement fits the case perfectly. Godfrie Poy is listed in London between 1718 and 1753. MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock. Four square baluster pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws. Kipling, LONDON and numbered (1635). The movement is in very good original condition, and is running well. DIAL : Wonderful gold champleve dial, signed Kipling, LONDON. All in fine condition. Good earl;y 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : 22ct gold, with London hallmarks for 1727, makers mark TP and movement serial number (1635). In reasonable condition but with some light bruises and slight compression around the band, and a short split to the band, just to the left of the hinge. Original bow and stem, though the stem has been reattached. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : A wonderful gold repousse pair case, decorated with a scene showing a winged cherub, a woman in the centre playing a lute, and a dog to the right, all under a tree. Animals, a bird and fish around the edge of the back, and fine scroll decoration to the bezel. In very good condition, with just some light wear to the high points, mainly to the central figure. One short crack on the inside of the bezel at the catch (this is where the gold band was joined to form the bezel). The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. William Kipling is listed in London between 1705 and 1737. The case maker is probably Thomas Potts of Fleet Street, London. The movement is in good original condition, and is running well. DIAL : The white enamel dial is in very good condition, with just a few light scratches, and no repairs or hairlines. There is slight compression to the gold around the band, a few light bruises to the back and some bruises to the bezel. The stem has been reattached, but the stem and bow are in good condition and appear to be original. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bulls eye crystal is fine. The silver repousse outer case is in good general condition which I think depicts a farrier shoeing a horse. The case hinge is tight and the covers meet flush. The catch spring has broken and the catch button missing so doesn’t lock. The inner case is in good general condition and hallmarked for London 1762/3 initials’C. The stem has been re-soldered at sometime past. The outer case measures 50mm in diameter and the inner case 41mm in diameter. The dial and hands are in good general condition. The glass high domed crystal has one small edge chip. The lovely decorative square pillar verge movement is in good general condition. It is signed’W Johnson London 1077′. It has a silvered balance cock and adjacent plates and has a decorative scroll to the end of the steel catch spring. The balance swings fine and the movement runs intermittently, it can run from a few minutes to a few hours so requires a service. Winds and sets fine. The movement is key wind and set, modern keys included (2 keys as wind and set are slightly different sizes). The relief shows the biblical dairy, Judas receives 30 silver coins from the high priests. The scenery is framed by very fine engraved, hammered and impassioned volutes as well as filigree foliage. Large, five-piece outer hinge. The case is signed “Peckruel”? Smooth inner case with case makers punch mark IW, and hard-to-read; English / London Hallmarks with Gothic letters, ie Cycle XV, from 1756 to 1775. Both cases are in excellent condition. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, arabic minute track, original gilded Arrow & bow brass hands, small part missing at the minute hand, dial is in very good condition.
