Mittel: two-body, 22k Gold repoussé, depicting Isaac, Rebecca & Eliezer in an asymmetrical rococo cartouche, pierced and lined with a gold sheet from behind, bezel decorated to match. Innercase : two-body, “bassine”, polished, mastermark “DP”for Daniel Piers, a Fine London Maker, Both gold cases are in very nice condition. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer arcaded minute track, five-minute Arabic numerals. Original blued steel Beetel & Poker hands. Hands and dial are in very nice condition. 34 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved cock, silver regulation dial. A very interesting and most important silver case watch. With a champleve dial, repousse working on the outer case, with day date SQUARE PILLARS, verge, fusee movement. MADE BY JAMES WHIYE. With a nice watchmakers paper to round it off. Note outer cases were never hallmarked. The inner silver case with the watch size is 42 m. This case is hallmarked London C 1769. That is hard to read. All the hinges work well on the cases. The Champleve dial in very nice condition, with all the gold pip in place, with the makers name WHITE. With date aperture that is working. The dial is very interesting set with a repousse cherub set on a blue back ground. The glass is very high bull nose clean and clear. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs well C + or – 2-3 minutes per hour. Beautiful British pair case repeating pocket watch from middle of XVIII century. Case comes in 20k or better solid gold. Outer case is decorated with scene of Orpheus playing his harp in repousse technique. It’s genuine piece of chasing art. It’s quality piece with careful attention to all small details. Orpheus , ancient Greek legendary hero endowed with superhuman musical skills. Traditionally, Orpheus was the son of a Muse and Apollo, who gave Orpheus his first lyre. Orpheuss singing and playing were so beautiful that animals and even trees and rocks moved about him in dance. Movement is of excellent quality, as you can expect from expensive watch. The watch features rare 1/8 repeater with two hammers to silver bell. It gives single strikes for hours, double strikes for quarters and after another single strike if 1/8 passed. Please look video below the photos. Condition The watch in overall good condition, but has some minor flaws. Outer case is generally in nice condition with some minor damage from polishing, notable on Orpheus face. Inner case has traces of repair in it’s center, where bell is fixed to the case. The silver bell itself also has traces of reparation and soldering. Movement is in working condition. It runs in any position, though I don’t guarantee time keeping. Repetition normally strikes correctly, but occasionally it doesn’t strike fully, hard to reproduce. Probably it’s a matter of cleaning and oiling. Dial has tiny flake at 6 hours, otherwise very good. Please see photos and video. Outer case diameter is 46mm, height is 58mm. Total weight is 111 grams, only outer case is 27 grams. 20k gold Pair case Repousse verge pocket watch Brown London 1725. Outstanding pair-cased Dutch rococo Verge fusee pocket watch in exquisite repoussé gold case of French origin circa 1725-30, “Minerva shielding Telemachus from the Arrow of Cupid”. The watch bears the signature “Brown London” , in my opinion; these are a falsifying statement. In the 18th century, English clocks were the most popular of their time. For this reason it was common among European watchmakers to provide their watches with an English signature. Upon closer inspection of the watch you may come to the conclusion it can only be the work of a Dutch master. Compering with Watches by Paul Bramer or Cornelius Uyterweer, then show the typical, charming playful movement pillars, the two-sided screwing of the escapement bridge. Another feature is the typical Dutch dial and the curving minute hand. The richly decorated pair cases with large external hinge are made of 20k gold. Due to its excellent, outstanding quality may be the work of one the greatest masters of the time. Made in repoussé technique, the outer case is a lush, mythological scene. Minerva protecting the sleeping Telemachus against the love arrows of Cupid. The smooth inner case is also made of 20kt gold and shows four hallmarks of the master goldsmith. Very nice big and thick Dutch verge fusee watch. The dial and movement are signed by Jan van Ceulen Le Jeune – Hagae. The watch is very nice. It features repousse silver outer case in truly remarkable, hard to find condition, with most delicate details preserved. The silver champleve dial is made in British style, without typical Dutch style wavy minute circle. The cock with D-shaped leg has symmetrical design and is decorated with fairy birds. It’s very finely made with attention to small details. Movement also feature nice openwork tulip pillars. Jean (Jan, John) van Ceulen Le Jeune is member of famous Dutch clockmaking dynasty. His watch from 1700 is described in Britten’s classical book p. Baillie book also mentions watches by van Ceulen Le Jeune in Ashmolean collection and watch with enamels of Huaud brothers. Condition Condition is quite nice. Dial is in good condition with few minor defects. Movement is running in every position though I don’t guarantee time keeping. Balance is ok, chain is here but not working, looks gummy and needs cleaning and oiling. Inner case winding hole is off the center (picture #5) and I think that movement is not original to cases but it is only my opinion. Hinges has to be adjusted to work properly.
