Gold repousse pair cased pocket watch, verge – William West, London, 1769. Gold repousse pair cases, 48.5 mm. A London verge watch, in gold repousse pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Four square pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws. West, London and numbered (2982). The movement is in good original condition, and is running well. DIAL : The white enamel dial is in very good condition, with just a few light scratches, and no repairs or hairlines. Fine gold beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : 22ct gold, hallmarked for London, 1769, makers mark IW. There is slight compression to the gold around the band, a few light bruises to the back and some bruises to the bezel. The stem has been reattached, but the stem and bow are in good condition and appear to be original. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bulls eye crystal is fine. OUTER CASE : A fine quality 22ct gold pair case with repousse decoration showing a classical scene. In good condition with just a little wear to the high points of the repousse work. The hinge and catch are fine and the bezel snaps shut firmly. There is a William West recorded in London from about 1723 until his bankruptcy in 1776. The watch has a beautiful inscription inside the back case, which reads To Dearest Ethel from her Affectionate Brother Victor – 15th Sept. The silver repousse outer case is in good general condition which I think depicts a farrier shoeing a horse. The case hinge is tight and the covers meet flush. The catch spring has broken and the catch button missing so doesn’t lock. The inner case is in good general condition and hallmarked for London 1762/3 initials’C. The stem has been re-soldered at sometime past. The outer case measures 50mm in diameter and the inner case 41mm in diameter. The dial and hands are in good general condition. The glass high domed crystal has one small edge chip. The lovely decorative square pillar verge movement is in good general condition. It is signed’W Johnson London 1077′. It has a silvered balance cock and adjacent plates and has a decorative scroll to the end of the steel catch spring. The balance swings fine and the movement runs intermittently, it can run from a few minutes to a few hours so requires a service. Winds and sets fine. The movement is key wind and set, modern keys included (2 keys as wind and set are slightly different sizes). London signed 22k Gold Repoussé case spindle clock ca. Fine, rare Repoussé pair case made of 22k gold, very fine very high-chased repoussé technique. The relief shows the biblical dairy, Judas receives 30 silver coins from the high priests. The scenery is framed by very fine engraved, hammered and impassioned volutes as well as filigree foliage. Large, five-piece outer hinge. The case is signed “Peckruel”? Smooth inner case with case makers punch mark IW, and hard-to-read; English / London Hallmarks with Gothic letters, ie Cycle XV, from 1756 to 1775. Both cases are in excellent condition. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, arabic minute track, original gilded Arrow & bow brass hands, small part missing at the minute hand, dial is in very good condition. Fire-gilt full-board , spindle lock, key hoist, signed Walker & Co. London, numbered 12689, screwed floral trim elements, chain / snail, square baluster pillar, three-armed steel bridge, fine floral engraved and perforated bridge bridge. The factory is in a nice state. Diameter 46mm, weight only watch 83g. SILVER REPOUSSE PAIR CASE VERGE FUSEE POCKET WATCH. Joseph snr was himself apprentice to Thomas Hughes. Joseph jnr’s business was registered at 32 Aldgate, High St, London. A early English pocket watch. In good working order. A fine 18th century English Repousse Silver pair cased verge fusee pocket watch by Joseph Stephens, London. The movement is watch maker signed and serial numbered 2408. The outer Silver Repousse case has a scene depicting four figures with an angel above them, the inner plain polished silver case (housing the movement) is hallmarked London 1783 and case maker stamped IW most likely to be John Wright, Red Lion St, Clerkenwell, London. The movement has round pillars, a finely pierced and engraved balance cock with a large Diamond endstone with engraved foot incorporating a Tompion style disc regulator. It has a chain driven fusee and a verge escapement. The white enamel dial has Black Roman hour numerals, black Arabic minute numerals and beetle & poker hands and it has mineral bullseye glass crystal. The outer case measures 47.5mm (approx 1.9) in diameter, the combined weight including movement is 105 grammes. Condition: Both cases fit well together and are considered to be an original pair. The movement is complete and in strong running order keeping to exceptionally good time for a verge movement of this age. Both case covers open and close correctly with good strong hinges. The dial has no hairlines or chips and the blued beetle and poker hands and bullseye crystal are in good order. Over all good condition commensurate with age.
