For your consideration is this absolutely beautiful 1897 Elgin 16S, 17J, Adjusted, Temp, and Iso Grade 155, Model 6, Class 32 Full Hunter Cased RAILROAD Pocket Watch. Even though it is pendant set, and Hunter Cased, AT THE TIME OF IT’S PRODUCTION IT WAS RAILROAD GRADE. This Model 6 had a run of only 1,000 movements, and total production of ONLY 6,000 MOVEMENTS. This just fully serviced (January 2018), excellent damaskeened nickel movement also has screw in Gold Jewel Settings, Gold Center Wheel, Gold Train and is Pendant Set and Wind. It not only runs and keeps time, it keeps excellent time. This 121 year old movement sets time, and winds easily just as it should. All 3 hands are excellent. They are nicely blued with no rust or corrosion. Elgin was one of the Premier American Railroad Pocket Watch Manufacturers. American Manufacturers made the finest Pocket Watches in the world. Now the home this wonderful movement lives in. It is a 14K Gold Filled Incredible Full Hunter Keystone J Boss Extra Case. This case is ornate, and beautiful, and shows little to no wear. I see only a few minor dings, dimples, and one small nick in the side of the case. You will see these in pictures. The spring loaded front, and back covers work just as they should. The neck, crown, and bow are also excellent. The bow is straight, tight, and shows little to no wear. The crown shows little wear. There is no brassing anywhere on the case, case back, bezel, neck, bow, or crown. It has no monogram. Well, there you have it. I have been a collector for over 30+ years. I strive for absolute accuracy to the best of my knowledge in my listings via descriptive text, and multiple clear pictures. I do not want the new owner to receive any unexpected surprises. Elgin watches remain extremely popular with collectors today because they are plentiful, can be obtained at reasonable prices, and can be relatively easily repaired due to the large number of watches and parts available. Throughout their history, the Elgin National Watch Company was known for horological innovations. In 1958, they introduced the “DuraBalance, ” an ingenious design for a free-sprung balance (no regulator pins) which used spiral balance arms and small weights to govern the moment of inertia of the balance. They also produced the only American-made automatic wristwatch movements: grades 607, 618, 760, and 761. This is a HUGE antique GOLIATH DOXA RAILROAD open face pocket watch for restoration. Circa late 1800s to early 1900s. The large case measures 68.1mm in diameter. The white enamel MONTGOMERY style dial is in decent shape with hairlines and edge chips. The SILVER or NICKEL plated? Open case is in good shape with normal wear. The inner case is stamped. The movement is unmarked. Stem wind & nail or button set. It will run when you shake it but it appears to have a broken balance staff. Just to show how big this pocket watch is, I put it right next to an 18 size pocket watch (18s not included see photo below). This watch makes that 18 size look like a 6 size. Offered is a nice, all original Waltham Vanguard 23 Jewel Railroad watch. Watch is running, timekeeping accuracy and service history unknown. Here is a SUPERB and a highly sought-after VINTAGE Elgin RAILROAD GRADE pocket watch in an 18K SOLID GOLD HUNTER CASE…. The serial number indicates the estimated year of production to have been 1879, with the personal engraving on the cuvette cover revealing a presentation date of Dec. The engraving shows the presenter of this watch to have been Farnham & Lovejoy which a Google search shows to have been a Minneapolis Law Firm at the time, the watch comes with its original box that is signed Eustes Bros. Which another Google search shows to have been a jewelry store on Nicollete St. This example is a grade 50 model 1 convertible movement and was in production at The Elgin National Watch Co. There were only 36000 made during those 17 years, so it is a somewhat scarce model and unusual to find one now that is in this great condition some 135 years later…. The watch is in good running order and keeping time, the dial is nearly flawless, the Breguet style hands are in excellent condition, and the case is in good cosmetic condition with all the inside surfaces being polished to perfection, the hinges function properly and the covers rest open to the correct ninety degree angles… The front and rear covers are each signed 18K and hallmarked 18K and have tested to that content both electronically and with acid testing, gross weight 143.5 grams…. The rear cover is superbly engraved with a multi-themed scene and maintains most of its original detailing, while the front cover details are worn thin…. One interesting feature regarding the Mosely regulator__it has a traveling nut arrangement and this example is unique in that the curved threaded rod that holds the nut is a very strong BLUED STEEL COLOR… Thank You Very Much.
