Specifications of Julien Le Roy OTTOMAN / TURK MARKET Pocket Watch. Julien Le Roy, probably the most inventive clockmaker in eighteenth century France, was appointed clockmaker to Louis XV (17101774), an honor that allowed him a workshop in the Louvre. The movement of the watch strikes hours and quarters on the back of the case instead of on a bell. This type of repeater, called a dumb repeater, allowed the user to tell the time unobtrusively by counting the vibrations of the case. The style of the case, with its beautiful opaque-enameled flowers that seem to float on an engraved gold ground, was fashionable among Parisian makers of watchcases and gold boxes about the middle of the eighteenth century. The watch is extremely rare to find and really big! The third case is silver and 1st & 2nd cases are a special material called tombac. (chopper plated with Gold and mercury). The watch has Quarter repeater specification! Inner case is 51 mm. The second, third ones are respectively 62, and 72 mm! The watch is really big. The second case is covered by tortoise shell which is colored with gold and has very nice view. It’s been kept so far in EXCELLENT condition. No pins are missing! The dial is porcelain and has no hairlines or cracks It is in perfect condition. The third case is 0.900 silver and has very nice flower engravings on it. This last cases were done by the ottoman masters as per the requests of the owners in ottoman empire in order to protect the tortoise shells. The movement belongs to this pocket watch and had stamped with 29353. The movement works flawless and keeps perfect timing. Even the arms are the originals and no changed! The watch has the repetition ability!! It strikes respectively the hours and quarters FLAWLESSLY! The watch will come with an original key and also a silver but gold plated enamel chain.
