Silver pair cases, verge pocket watch, champleve calendar dial – London, c1700. Edmund Marsh, London, c1700. Silver pair cases, 56.5 mm. A good early London verge with original champleve calendar dial, in silver pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced winged balance cock, showing birds and a mask at the neck. Four tulip pillars and silver regulator disk. MARSH, LONDON and numbered (2538). The movement and calendar are both working. DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with calendar aperture, in very good condition. Nice original 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks. In quite good condition, though the pendant has been reattached and reinforced on the inside. However the pendant and bow appear to be original (of the correct simple style for c1700). There is a small section of the inner rim (about 10 mm) broken off the inner rim at 7 and a couple of old repairs. The hinge is worn, but complete. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with large square hinge (7 sleeves). Again with no hallmarks. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. There are a couple of old repairs to the bezel and back, visible on the inside only, and some small bruises throughout. These watches are getting rarer and rarer. Just look at the amazing work on the movement! Made By N Preston of London. And retailed by F. Rampton, watch maker and jeweller from hailsham high street around 1800. This watch is cased in solid silver. The dial is completly original and unrestored. Please view all the pictures even just to admire the work of the movement. I havent checked it for time keeping as i never like to wind these old watches too much. I have slightly wound it and its working and keeping time for the last 2 hours. This is a collectors watch not an everyday watch. And over all a lovely pocket watch thats pushing 230 years old. Verge Fusee Pocket Watch 1780 by J. Verge Fusee watch by J Wilders for parts or repair. The top hinge is a little loose but still has it’s bull nose crystal. The dial has roman numerals and a lovely town scene with two men taking a walk by a bridge. The movement is signed and the case has the silver marks for London, 1780. Case measures about 42mm across. Antique verge pair case silver pocket watch. Edward Hemmen, London, circa 1791. Working order but keeps poor time. Movement signed and numbered 15755. Gilt fusee and chain movement with verge escapement, turned pillars and pierced balance cock. White enamel convex dial and steel beetle and poker hands having Roman numeral hour markers and Arabic quarters and covered with an original bulls eye glass. The silver pair cases both hallmarked London 1791 and with the case makers mark TG. In the outer case back are some watchmakers repair papers. Outer case diameter 52mm. The watch works, it runs for a full 30 hours but runs fast, I have not tried to regulate it. It has a winding key. There are 2 small dents on the outer case. The push button for the outer case opener is missing although its spring is there and it closes properly. The bow must be a replacement, its the correct shape but its not silver. The inner case has solder on the inside where the stem has been re-attached. One side of the inner case hinge is broken on the bezels side the other side is good. All in all, for a 229 year old watch its in nice antique condition. Beautiful British verge pocket watch by Nicholas Prevost. The outer case diameter is 57mm, inner case is 50mm. Weight is hefty 141 grams. The watch is signed by N. Nicholas Prevost , recorded by Baillie, circa 1710. The watch is a good example of British watchmaking of late XVII / early XVIII. Movement features tulip pillars and cock with D-shaped foot – these details appeared about 1690s and disappeared to 1710. The engraving also makes think about 1700. The case hasn’t any hallmarks, what isn’t surprising for such an early watch. Besides inner case is later polished.. Condition The watch appears to be in good condition. Movement is nice and clean, appeared to be in good running condition and works in every position. Champleve silver dial seems to be free from defects. Case is in good condition with some period wear. Large silver regulator disk and four Egyptian pillars. All in good original condition and running well. DIAL : Silver champleve dial in very good condition. Later hands, the hour repaired at the base. INNER CASE : Silver, makers mark B, but no hallmarks. In good condition, though the stem and bow are later so have been reattached. The hinge is a little worn so the bezel doesnt snap shut tightly. The high dome bulls eye crystal is scratched and worn, but no chips. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, again with no hallmarks. Nice large square hinge. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. There are a few light bruises to the back, and an old repair at the neck (only visible from the inside), but generally in quite good condition. A great motion in all positions, keeps very good time for a more than. 250 year old verge watch, the movement is signed Cha. And the serial number 2145. The movement is recently fully serviced. The enamelled dial is near mint, has beautiful black steel. Poker and beetle hands. The crystal bulls-eye glass is also near mint, nos. The outer silver case is covered with tortoise shell. The inner case Is hallmarked for the city London. Year letter G what stands for the year 1762. Across 50mm, including bow 61mm. The watchmaker Charles Clayton of London, watchmaker till ca 1781. A large London verge, with fine and rare mock pendulum movement. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock and plate, silver regulator disk and three tulip pillars (and one round). The balance cock table, beautifully engraved with birds and foliage, is cut out and glazed to reveal a mock pendulum bob, which is attached to the 2 spoke balance wheel. All in good complete condition, with the the gilding still bright, and the movement is running well. There are some scratches around the pillar tops and small chips to the corders of the glass set into the balance cock. DIAL : Fine, original, silver champleve dial, signed in the centre Farmer, London. All in good condition with no excessive rubbing or wear. Nice original early 18th century blued steel hands, though with some damage to the tip of the minute. INNER CASE : Silver with rubbed makers mark CW. In reasonable condition with some small dents and scratches. The pendant has been repaired, possibly a replacement. The high dome, bulls eye crystal is good. The hinge is fine, and the bezel snaps shut securely, though gapes slightly on the left side. OUTER CASE : Silver, with matching makers mark CW to the inner, and case serial number 639. Again in reasonable condition throughout, with just some small dents and a hole on the bezel at the catch. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine, and the case snaps shut correctly. The makers mark and serial number have been heavily stamped to the inside of the back, and these marks show through on the outside of the back. Richard Farmer is listed in London from 1675 until 1688, and in the Clockmakers Company between 1683 and 1688. Good early 18th century steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks, but makers mark RB. In good condition, though the pendant has been reattached and the hinge sleeves are worn (one broken). However the hinge is still strong and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bulls eye crystal has just one small chip, right on the bezel at 9. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with matching makers mark to the inner. In good condition throughout, with just a few very small dents and a short slit at the stem. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly.
