Untested for timekeeping due to age. Outer Case Width: 53mm. All watches look better to the natural eye than in photo’s and blemishes are not apparent in there natural view. Have you taken time to read the full description. Looked at all photo’s showing clear condition of the watch. Checked the movement is what you require ie, quartz, Manual winding or Automatic. Checked the size of the wrist watch and it’s Gender. Notice pre 1960s watch tend to be smaller in some cases. Have you watched the video of the watch. The watch will under go a strict inspection of it visual and mechanical condition. The watch will be wound to full power and tested for performance over a 24 hour period by our professional horologist. Watches after our final checks are wrapped to the highest le vel to prevent damage in transport only then are they despatched. How do we protect our self against mischievous and fraudulent behaviour. For our protection due to bad experiences with mischievous people who open the case backs of our watches and cause internal damage or remove parts, remember horology is a specialist subject and many years of experience in this field needed so do not attempt to remove or tamper with any watches and then return to us. The person named above was has clearly broken the law committing fraud and deception he is awaiting trial, internet fraud is a very serious offence and when found guilty can be up to a 10 year prison sentence. All our items are security marked and serial numbers logged watches are clearly seen in video’s working unless stated in our add so any parts removed or damaged will be classed as criminal damage or theft and we will 100% prosecute. Again sorry to all the genuine people in the world, but if you are that person who is thinking purchasing from us with a criminal intent think again. Note you will need to care for the watch to the highest level and it will require service at some point in time. What to expect & recomendations for the owner of antiquarian watches. All Antique watches are mechanical. Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches). Antique watches should not be beaten or dropped – because repairs may be expensive. Antique watches are generally NOT waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture. If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust. If your watch becomes wet with any kind of salt water you should immediately immerse or spray your watch with fresh (no-salt) water to remove all the salt from the works before drying the watch completely. Any salt left in the watch will combine with moisture in the air to rust metal components of the movement, case etc. Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring. If you can avoid it do not wind the watch hard. When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement. If you must adjust counter-clockwise make it for small adjustments only i. For minutes, NOT hours. Be careful and gentle when adjusting the movement speed (faster or slower). Don’t make sharp movements, and don’t touch other components in the movement especially the pendulum mechanism. Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches. IF the watch is dirty – allow the watch to run down, don’t wind it again until you have it serviced by a qualified watch repair expert. Dust will absorb and remove important lubricants and cause the movement pieces to wear down. To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your Watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth. Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement. Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed. Antique watches generally experience an error of up to 5-7 minutes a day. Any accuracy of +- 5 minutes is very good. Vintage & collectors watches are very delicate and I package to the highest degree to prevent damage. High altitude flights can be hard on watches due to extreme temperature changes. This can cause the oil viscosity to decrease (gum up) and prevent a watch from ticking the balance moving freely etc. It may need to be oiled when it arrives regardless of its recent servicing (if applicable). Although this is only a very slight possibility it can occasionally happen. Check out my other items. C1774 John Kentish, Jr. London. Pair Case Verge Fusee Pocket Watch With Stop Start

SOUTHAMPTON STREET, STRAND, LONDON. 18TH CENTURY PAIR CASE VERGE FUSEE POCKET WATCH. RECENTLY SERVICED IN GOOD STRONG WORKING ORDER. A fine colourful pair case verge fusee doctors watch, movement signed John Kentish Jnr, Southampton Street, Strand, London and serial numbered 1270. A rare eighteenth century English verge fusee pair case pocket watch. The gilded full plate verge fusee movement has applied engraved foliate decoration surrounding a large finely pierced and engraved matching balance cock set with a large Diamond endstone. It has a Tompion disc regulator and a gilt metal dust cover. The white enamel dial is signed John Kentish JUNr Southampton Street Strand. The subsidiary dial for the time of day has black Roman hour numerals, an outer minute index track with Arabic numerals at 15 min intervals and gold coloured hands. The time is key set at the centre of the subsidiary dial. The seconds are indicated by the curved centre sweep hand on the outermost track, the seconds track is further divided into fifths of a second. This dial arrangement is sometimes referred to as Doctors dial because it allows the seconds hand to be stopped using the slide on the outside of the inner case (located at the 4 o clock position) for the purpose of taking the patients pulse. The outer case has a deep red and dark brown mottled finish with silver pin work decoration on a gilt metal base. The inner gilt case is plain polished. The outer case measures 58mm in diameter (2.3inches). The total combined weight including movement is 145grams (approx 5 ozs). Condition The movement has been serviced and cleaned in November 2017, it is running strongly and keeps to good verge time, (as with most old verges accuracey is improved by consistent room temperature). The stop start function is in working order. The dial is in excellent condition without any chips or hairlines. The inner case has no dents or dings, the thin layer of gilt finish on the inner cover is starting to fade away with age in places. The outer case retains its natural gloss sheen and colours, some of the pique work decoration is missing and it has a couple of cracks to the outer translucent covering. Please enlarge and take time to view the pictures which will provide a fair indication of the overall cosmetic condition. A bit more info on the pocket watch and its maker. John Kentish Junior is noted by Baillie, to have been active between 1758-74. The partnership was based at Storey’s Gate, Westminster, London but was dissolved in 1772. In 1774 Kentish was recorded to be working at Southampton Street, London when he declared himself bankrupt while continuing to work as a watchmaker until 1798. Doing some research myself on the internet it mentions that there are only six pocket watches known to have been made by John Kentish Jnr. This particular watch has the added rarity of having the full makers name and address signed on both the movement and the dial, I have not yet seen another Kentish pocket watch with the street location included on both the dial and the movement, which may possibly make this the only one still in existence to include this particular information on the watch. It would be a rare find if it does turn out to be the only one with the Southampton st address, but regardless it’s still a rare example being one of just half a dozen pocket watches signed by the clock and watch maker John Kentish Jnr. My additional info above was compiled from info found at the following sources. Wiki John Kentish Jr. Please look out for my. And add me to your. The item “C1774 JOHN KENTISH, JR. LONDON.
