Fresh out of an estate watch collection. As-found antique condition for repair. Watch does not run. Outer case shows repair with steel reinforcing plate inside case and slightly deformed exterior. Porcelain dial shows cracks and evidence of repair.

C1775 EARDLEY NORTON, 49 ST JOHNS STREET, CLERKENWELL, LONDON. QUARTER REPEATING VERGE PAIR CASED POCKET WATCH. A George III pair cased plunge pendant quarter repeating verge fusee pocket watch by Eardley Norton of London. Both original matching heavy cases are made from Gilt on white metal. The outer case measures 58mm in diameter and has a square hinge and a press button release catch with button back spring. The inner gilt case has a front hinged bezel and a back hinged cover, the back cover has a slide escutcheon covering the keyhole. The plunge pendant quarter repeater mechanism hammers strike on two inner bells. The white enamel dial has a Roman numeral hour chapter with conventional minute numbering. The dial is signed Eardley Norton London. It has blued steel moon hands and a high dome mineral glass crystal. The Total weight is 128 gram including movement. Condition: The movement is in very good working order keeping to within a few minutes per 24 hr day. The repeater mechanism is functioning correctly, striking loud and in sync with the time of day. The cases including the hinges and closures are in all round good condition without any dents, the cases gilted top finish has worn off in a few small places. The dial is in good condition without any hairlines. Eardley Norton was an Eminent London clock and watch maker who also produced complicated astronomical and musical clocks.
