From a Long Standing Maine Estate/Highly Collectible 245 Year Old J. Watson, London Sterling Silver Vergee Fusee Pair Case Pocket Watch with Local Maine Provenance in Non-Running Cosmetically Excellent Condition/Original Sterling Silver Case, Chain & Key Included/Substantial 118.2 Grams Total Weight. Is for an extremely rare and highly collectible sterling silver pair cased gilt verge fusee pocket watch with it’s original chain and winding key! Offered in non-running cosmetically excellent condition. The watch is wound up tight but doesn’t run. From what I can see it doesn’t appear the fusee chain is broken. I believe it needs only a service to put it back in excellent operating condition. One side of the sterling bow is broken. This watch was obtained from the descendant of the original owner and has always been in the same family here in southern Maine! This incredible verge fusee. Pocket watch is complete with it’s original matching signed sterling silver pair case, watch chain and winding key. The key once had an inlaid compass, but that has long since disappeared. You could easily add one if desired. Both sterling silver pair case and watch case bear matching English touchmarks for the maker J. Watson, London and date letter code for 1771. When I opened the case I was delighted to discover many layers of paper labeled service work dating all the way back to 1809! There are five total. This was the way the watch maker recorded a proper servicing. All papers are from known local watch and clock makers in my local area including Portsmouth, N. And Sanford, Berwick and Kennebunk, Maine. An amazing provenance that has traveled with this watch since it’s making in London in 1771! The watch diameter is 41mm. The gilt vergee fusee movement is stunning. A richly decorated, signed & numbered gilt verge fusee movement with a gargoyle’s face engraved into the pierced reticulated engraved movement surfaces. Please see the close up photos of the amazingly detailed decorations on the fuse movement. Note the extravagant pierced and engraved balance bridge. Watson London with matching serial number 5885, the same number that appears on both cases. Please examine the many photographs carefully. This 245 year old sterling silver J.
