A very fine condition gilt brass cased, English made, pocket watch sized aneroid barometer with altimeter, measuring 5 cm wide and 2 cm thick and finely patinated as shown in the pictures. This is a beautifully made instrument, made in ca. 1875 with original morocco leather finished case, with some marks as shown. Where there is a wide variety of fine antique & vintages watches. THE DIAL: 100% mint, the silver dial with black Arabic numerals and in bright condition. The dial with a fine blue steel spade hand. The bevelled crystal is also in excellent condition and retained securely. The dial with adjustment with respect to atmospheric pressure. THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with a brass 3/4 baseplate and the aneroid barometer cleaned and in full working order. This instrument is much brighter and crisp than in these dark photos, which are limited by my camera and lighting equipment. The barometer is in very good working order for its age. THE CASE: 80% mint, the gilded brass case measures an impressive 51 mm. The front snap on rotating cover is in excellent condition. The rear cover with an adjuster screw to compensate or adjust position of indicator hand. The case with wear to the gilding as shown. The barometer comes with its original red leather morocco covered case. Gilt pocket watch, pair cases, verge – John Leroux, London, c1780. Gilt pair cases, 55 mm. A fine quality verge, by an excellent London maker. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone, polished steel escape wheel, four round pillars, and blued screws. A lever on the side of the dial at 8 oclock stops and restarts the movement. Signed and numbered (3483). This movement is in excellent condition, and is running well. DIAL : Beautiful, signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds. Matching arrowhead gold hands. All in excellent condition. INNER CASE : Yellow metal, with no makers mark. In very good condition throughout. The high dome bulls eye crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : Yellow metal, again with no makers mark. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. John Leroux (1750 1805) is listed at 8 Charing Cross, London. He is known for his development of the lever movement following Thomas Mudges invention of the escapement. A very interesting and most important leather outer case in great condition. Gilt pair case watch. Verge, fusee movement tulip pillars. With a great silver key with stone set in it. T he has leather covered on the back and front bezel with a very good colour, all the pins are in place on the back and front. (my photographs do not do it justice). Size of the outer leather case is 55 m. M, with a very nice clean watchmakers paper so nice to have and rounds this fine watch off. Clip may need adjusting. The size of the pinchbeck gilt case with then watch is 45 m. In very nice condition, and so very nice to see how well this watch was looked after as the stem has never had to be repaired and still turns. Are very fine beetle and poker hands that look original. DIAL white enamel is fine condition, note mark at 30 is the clip to lift the movement. The glass is very high domed bull nose mineral with a small chip on the side at 9. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs well with a variation of C 2-3 minuets per hour. With a very fine engraved back plate with a decorated and engraved broad balance cock, a silver Tompion regulator. Signed on the back plate. With magnificent Tulip pillars. Gilt brass cases, 79 mm. Verge, quarter repeating movement. A Swiss quarter repeater, in a very large and unusual oval hunter case. MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with small silver regulator disk, and beautifully pierced and engraved balance bridge with polished steel coquerette. All in good condition. Running well and repeating correctly, striking on two blued steel gongs. DIAL : White enamel dial, in quite good condition. One hairline running through the centre from 3 to 9, chips around the winding aperture and a few scratches. Blued steel Breguet type hands. CASE : A very large, oval, gilt brass half hunter case. The movement is accessed by an inner cover to the back, so it is wound (and hands set) through two small holes in the crystal. However the crystal is acrylic and the front of the inner case would originally of opened to access, so this a later modification. Originally the dial would have had an undrilled mineral crystal and the inner front cover would have lifted to access the dial for winding and setting.
