Antique Allamand 18K Gold Demi Hunter Watch. Striking antique Fritz Allamand 18K gold demi hunter pocket watch made in London, England in 1926 and in amazing condition. The watch preserves the original movement; this has been checked in order to provide an optimal performance. It comes in its original storing case, with the manufacturerss name (ALLAMAND BROTHERS 3006) in golden lettering and printed on the lids inner white-satin lining. The case hides a compartment with two spare glasses and a spring, all of them original from the time. The case is in great condition: the outside dark-red leatherette covering and the inner blue-velvet lining are very well preserved. The same can be said about the watchs casing, with a non-decorated gold front cap which shows no signs of wear of scratches. Around the gap that makes it possible to see the dial we can see the Roman numerals that mark the hours. Its inner side bears several hallmarks which identify the gold it is made of; the piece that connects the crown and the casing bears a hallmark too. If we lift the front cap we will see the complete white dial, with pear or spade-type cobalt-blue hands, black Roman numerals and the brand and model in black lettering: ALLAMAND BROTHERS, LONDON 3006. The rear cap is adorned with a gorgeous hand-engraved acronym composed of the initials APB, intertwined and decorated of multiple tiny details. Under this cap we find the dustcap, also made of gold, with hallmarks and with no decoration at all. The movement that rests under this piece shows some fine hand-engraved inscriptions in cursive lettering, including the manufacturers name and address and the model. Attractive and authentic, this antique Allamand 18K gold demi hunter pocket watch is an old-time jewel almost one century old. Dimensions: Width: 41 mm. Samuel Joseph, Liverpool unusual verge fusee pocket watch with demi-hunting case and terrific fancy balance cock. Silver consular style case measures approximately 54mm in diameter (pendant excluded) and is marked with London hallmarks, the date letter is not fully distinct due to wear but appears to be very likely for either 1800 or 1801 (capital E or F). Dial is white enamel and has a central chapter that is visible when the front of the case is closed, has an outer chapter visible when the front of the case is opened, and has a winding aperture toward bottom. Movement is marked with the serial number 1262, the word “Warranted, ” and has a magnificent fancy balance cock with a radiating sunburst design to its table. Running and a nice looking movement overall with excellent gilt color. Dial is excellent with just a scratch between 5 and 6 O’clock in its inner chapter and a small fine scratch at outer edge near the 1 minute marker. Minute hand appears to be a replacement being of different color than hour hand. Case is attractive with a good overall in hand look and feel. Case front opens somewhat wide of 90 degrees, case rear has some scattered dents and dings, and case front has a few mild small dings. Demi-hunting case crystal has some scratches. A rare find from a watch collector’s estate; an antique J. Benson (of London, England) demi hunter pocket watch, circa 1901. Case is well hallmarked with a 1901 date stamp (Queen Victoria died in January of 1901); a London, England stamp, a STERLING. SILVER stamp, and a “JWB” maker’s stamp. The watch movement has a wonderful gold colored finish; with gold jewel settings, it is stem wind and pin set, presumed 15 jewels. Stamped on the 3/4 plate is, BY WARRANT TO H. THE LATE QUEEN VICTORIA, J. Benson, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill London. The watch ran for over 24 hours and is within 2 minute accuracy. The case is approximately 16 size with 3 hinged covers. Is inset with a 17.5mm beveled glass crystal and is inlaid with blue enamel for the minute chapter ring and Roman numerals. The case has some scratches and dings; the cuvette cover has scratches throughout, presumed a non professional removed a former. Inscription and did NOT do the final polish to take out the scratches. The white enameled dial has a black minute chapter ring, Roman numerals for the hours. Arabic at the 10-second positions in the subsidiary seconds. The dial and crystals are in very good condition. The blued steel spade hands are in very good condition. The diameter of the case is 51.7mm, with an. Overall length (including the bow) of 73.5mm and a thickness of 16.4mm. THE TOTAL GROSS WEIGHT OF THE WATCH IS 133.1 GRAMS. BENSON COMPANY (from the Internet). Benson Ltd was a highly regarded London watch/clockmakers and gold/silversmiths who traded between 1847 and 1973. The Benson family had been watchmakers since 1749. A company, trading as S. Benson, was founded in 1847 by James William Benson (born in 1826 in Reading) and his older brother Samuel Suckley Benson (born in 1822 in London). The partnership was dissolved on 27th January 1855 and James William continued the business under the name, J. James William Benson died on 7th October 1878, aged 52, and his sons James, Alfred and Arthur took over the running of the business. Throughout its history, J. Benson Ltd was official watchmaker to the Admiralty & the War Department and also held a number of royal warrants, being watchmakers to Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, the Tsar of Russia and several other royal families. In 1892 it became a limited company and moved to their new’steam’ factory at 38 Belle Sauvage Yard. The factory was bombed, destroying thousands of timepieces and from this point on the company no longer manufactured its own watches, but still continued as a retailer.
