All of the diamonds are original except for one (1), which has been replaced. All of the rubies are original. PAIR CASED 18TH CENTURY SILVER VERGE FUSEE WATCH NO. 811 H, NICOLLS LONDON. A very rare watch that needs to have one hand added and a number 2 key. There is a cut out paper advertisement in the outer case that says Maker Meeksham. So, this is where the actual watchmaker H. You’re probably not going to run into very many of this case type, unless you have a very old watch that’s been handed down to you. In the early to mid-18th century, it was common for watches to be housed in “pair cases”. A pair-cased watch has an inner case which holds the actual movement of the watch (often a verge fusee), and an outer case which enclosed and protected the inner case. Since the inner case couldn’t be made dust-proof because of the key-holes for winding and/or setting, an outer case would provide additional protection from dust and dirt. There were even some triple-cased watches made during the same period! Early pair-cased verge fusee watches were often ornately decorated with pierced and chased gold-work as seen in the photos below. Mid 18th century verge fusee made by Leamoure of London. The watch has a beautiful sharp edged repouse outer case, good clear crystal, clean and fully functional movement. There are a few minor lines on the dial(see pics). The dial is painted with cool tone colors which accent the silver case nicely. This is a very rare enamel gilt and shagreen (shark skin) outer case for a late 17th or early 18th century verge pocket watch. I have taken pictures with the digital vernier so you can see the sizes to see if your watch will fit this outer case. T he case has an enamel panel to the back and green studded sharkskin to the case ribs. The shagreen is mostly intact and in remarkable condition for a case that is nearly 300 years old. For sale is an antique pair cased verge fusee pocket watch. Fabulous watch, made in a gilt metal. No running but potentially a very nice watch once restored or good for parts. Movement by John Hart of London, dated 1794. Measures approximately 46mm in diameter. Non working but a good project. Balance and fusee chain appear to be intact. When wound, the cogs will turn very quickly until the watch runs down. Missing hands and glass but dial in excellent condition. 18th Century Very Fancy 18K Gold Pear Pocket Watch Case Only 54 mm Diameter. This listing is for an 18th century 18k gold pear watch case. This very ornate case has an outer diameter of 54 mm not including the hinge and an inner diameter of 38 mm. And a depth of approximately 15 mm. The watch case has been tested and it is 18k gold (guaranteed). The case back is extremely fancy and well done. The figures are layered over another plate of gold giving a very three dimensional appearance. The figures are a classical scene of three people two men and a women in a forested setting. The case is tight with very light wear. The case weighs 25 grams. It will take a very specific size movement to fit this case but if you have that movement you will have a very good marriage indeed! Century English Verge in underpainted horn gilt pair cases. C/w Key (not original). The watch is in ticking order but because of it’s age no guarantee can be given on the time keeping. As with all vintage watches, no claims are made regarding accuracy of time keeping. Vintage watches may need servicing, even if they are in good running condition, and unless otherwise stated they may need to be cleaned, timed, oiled or adjusted. Full plate fire gilt movement with Round pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, fine gold hands. There is a repair to the dial by 6 (see photo). Gilt metal pair cases, gilt pendant and bow. Plain gilt inner, maker’s mark “what looks like W P with an eight armed star above”. Gilt outer covered in translucent horn underpainted lady in costume, Vase and Plinth, Flora. The underpainted horn in a reasonable condition there is discoloration and split, the case is not a perfect fit around the top but it will close.
