The lever-set movement is marked: Sixty Hour Bunn Special Illinois Watch Springfield Adjusted Temp. And Six Positions 5052310 Double Roller Motor Barrel 21 Jewels. The movement features raised gold jewel settings, and dates to 1928. The double-sunk dial is marked: Illinois Bunn Special 21 Jewel 60 Hour. The dial is good condition, but there are some faint hairlines in the finish – see photos for condition please. The case is in good condition, there are small areas of wear-through on the bow/crown area, and there are small areas along the edge. Inside the case back is marked: Bunn Special Model 29 Wadsworth Quality 14 Karat Gold Filled Pat’s Pend’g 7919310. The watch is running, and winds/sets properly. 16 size 21 jewel hunting case lever-set Bunn Special pocket watch. A scarce watch in its hunting case versions, the total production of this variation of 16 size Bunn Special is estimated to be 650 made. Watch is fronted by its correct double-sunk enamel dial and is housed in a 20 year gold-filled B&B Royal hunting case with very attractive engine turning and engraving detail. Movement serial number is 3772240. Running and a beautiful movement overall with superb bright color and luster. Balance jewel setting is a brass replacement and there are some small scratches near this jewel setting. Dial is a correct and original for this Model 8 movement with its dial feet all in proper locations. Dial faces up well with just some scattered light hairlines, some subtle mild haze to its surface glaze visible in certain lighting angles, and a tiny edge nick under the case bezel near 12 O’clock. Case is very attractive externally with excellent overall engine turning and engraving detail. Inner surface of front lid is brassy and has scattered dark spots. Illinois Bunn Special, 60 Hour, 21 Jewel, Railroad Pocket Watch. This Illinois Bunn Special Model is 16 size (case diameter 51mm). The movement is marked Sixty Hour, 21 jewels, Adj. And is lever set, has gold jewel settings, gold train, micrometer regulator, and all the special features you’d expect on a genuine American Railroad Watch. Movement condition is very nice although some of the color has come out of the lettering engraving, a common occurence. Dial is original, bold numeral painted metal in nice original condition with some slight darkening to the outer chapter. The case is original and marked, in scarce pink or rose gold filled. The case does have wear and brass as shown, but if polished, the brass color is very close to the pink gold and so does not show very much. Nice, honest original Bunn railroad watch. This watch is a mens size 16 (55mm in diameter) housed in an oversized scalloped fancy gold filled hunter case. This watch is an extremely rare 17 Jewel 16 size Bunn Special Hunter. This is the 13. Watch ever made of all of the 16 size Bunn or Bunn Special Hunter watches! The 19J, 21J and 23J hunters were made after the 17J pieces. This is a first run piece. Specifically in relation to the 17 Jewel 16 size Bunn Hunters, there were only a total of 192 made across 2 small runs making this variant one of the rarest Bunn or Bunn Specials variants to collect. More specifically of the 192 made there were two variants. This watch being the very first run made of the two runs and only 100 exist of its type! The other run was made much later in the 3.3million serial number range. Not only is this piece the first run and the 13. Made of the first run of Bunn Hunters, this watch is the 13. Made of all Bunn and Bunn Specials ever made if you check the Illinois serial number records in the Illinois Watch Co book which I have and confirmed. An amazing piece of Bunn history here. The two 17J Bunn Hunter variants are not discussed or separated in the normal pocket watch price guide as they are just simplified there all under one banner, this variant should be listed as a 4 star rarity. There has not been many sightings of watches from this first run of 100 so this watch holds a much higher premium from what is listed in as book value. My watch here for sale with no enamel loss also being very early and potentially being the earliest 16s Bunn or Bunn Special hunter known existing to date! The movement itself is in very good condition as you can see with damaskeening still very bright and clear. All of the gold filled wording is still in tact as well which is fantastic! The movement has all of the high grade features that you would expect solid gold balance screws, solid gold gear train and solid gold jewel settings. The watch runs very well and sets very well. The movement is not original to the case so I will not guarantee that level of originality. I need to state this as some people expect a perfectly new movement as it came off the production floor when in fact this is over 100 years old and I do not have any idea of its history over that period. The serial number of the movement is 2577313. So this movement was the 13. 16s Bunn Hunter ever made. The double sunk Illinois dial is in fantastic condition. There are no chips or hairlines whatsoever that I can see and I have checked under the bezel. The crystal is in great condition with no chips or scratches. This Gold filled Wadsworth 25 year hunter case is a stunning piece and hard to find this oversized and with a scalloped edge, for such a special movement you have to have a special case. The case is fancy and shows some pocket smoothing and does have some wear through but only the high points of the scalloped edge and stem, as you can see it presents stunningly. All of the case lids open and close well and stay latched in place perfectly with absolutely no gaps. All of the case lids hinges are tight. A very large oversized watch to hold in your hand at 55mm diameter, most 16 size cases are 50mm in diameter. The watch is stem wound and the hands are lever set. The watch is currently running well and the hands set very well.
