Up for sale is this amazing vintage. Vintage Silver Movado’Ermeto’ travelling watch in a sliding brown original crocodile case. The face is signed’Movado Chronometre Ermeto, Switzerland’. As the sliding covers are opened, a pinion on the winding stem is engaged. Which automatically turns the winding crown and winds the watch. An ingenious piece of horological engineering, each opening and closing of the case was designed to provide 4 hours of running time, therefore, the user was only required to open their watch 6 times a day to power it for 24 hours. The Ermeto was designed to be used with or without a chain and could simply be placed in a pocket or bag. The watch also has a small ring allowing it to be hooked on to a chain and carried as desired. Also on the back is swinging leg, so the watch can stand on it’s own. Outstanding pair-cased Dutch rococo Verge fusee pocket watch in exquisite repoussé gold case of French origin circa 1725-30, “Minerva shielding Telemachus from the Arrow of Cupid”. The watch bears the signature “Brown London” , in my opinion; these are a falsifying statement. In the 18th century, English clocks were the most popular of their time. For this reason it was common among European watchmakers to provide their watches with an English signature. Upon closer inspection of the watch you may come to the conclusion it can only be the work of a Dutch master. Compering with Watches by Paul Bramer or Cornelius Uyterweer, then show the typical, charming playful movement pillars, the two-sided screwing of the escapement bridge. Another feature is the typical Dutch dial and the curving minute hand. The richly decorated pair cases with large external hinge are made of 20k gold.
