Early Elgin keywind pocket watch from about 1871. Made for John V Farwell & Co. Only about 2400 of these were made according to pocket watch data base. The 11 jewel movement is running strong. I see one small chip on the edge of the dial between 9 and 10. The front lid lift spring is weak. Lid opens to 90 degrees and has tight hinges. The 11 jewel movement is a model 1 grade 12 with a solid nickel balance. Serial number is 101015. The release button is well worn and does not stay in place properly. Large 18s with three covers. The outside two are angled hinge. MOVEMENT SIGNED: Elgin Nat’l Watch Co, Elgin Ill. Safety Pinion, and 5124305. CASE SIGNED: A and 71. From what I found online this is a model 1, made in 1894. It is size 18s and 7J. I couldnt find any information online regarding the case. CASE AND MOVEMENT CONDITION: Glass (crystal) is in great shape with no cracks or chips. Few scuffs at most on glass and one hard to see internal impact. Winds and keeps time. The time can be changed. All hands are still on the clock. No key but accepts a standard pocket watch key. The porcelain face is in incredible condition. The inside rear cover has some dings.
