Pocket Watch Case

For your consideration is a Series VI 6S, 15J E. This watch was produced between 1874 to 1878. There were only 5,500 of these watches produced by the E. This is a very beautiful watch which looks like it was made yesterday and will be a great addition for someone wanting perfection in their collection. Watch is in working condition. The Dial is excellent condition. I did not remove the bezel on this watch. Everything is so tight on this watch almost as in brand new condition. The Umbrella Hands are nicely blued. The crystal has a few small cracks. The Movement is a very nice gilt with the Letter G. The serial number is 104243. The watch is stem wind and lever set. The Hunter Case is 14K Gold and weighs 59 grams total weight. The front cover functions as it should, a little tight. All three covers only open to about 88-89 degrees all very tight. The case is very, very ornate and looks like it was made yesterday. Does not look like it was ever carried. The backside of the dust cover has the following inscription: J. I was particularly impressed with the ribbed edges of this case. This Elgin watch dates back to 1896 per the SIGNED movement’s serial # 6,399,341. This serial number dates this watch to 1896. This is a Model 4, class 6, grade 96. It is stem wound and lever set. It is currently running but I have seen it stop. The SIGNED dial has thin black Roman numeral hour markers and blued hands. Sunken seconds regiater at the 6 o’clock position. The front cover hing is over-sprung. The back cover and dust covers are good and tight. I have no service records for this antique Elgin watch. The balances swings and it seems power is running down the train. The watch comes with 2 keys, the silver key is to wind the watch while its in the case, the brass key is for setting the hands while in case. When the watch is out of the case the brass key can provide both functions. The case with the crystal in weighs 49.53grams. The movement weighs 55.13grams. Together they weigh 104.72grams. The case is 18k gold and the dial I presume is as well. The balance cock is solid gold and there is a diamond end jewel for the upper balance jewel. The chain is not good nor are the keys. This watch is in extremely good shape for its age it just needs a little love. Offered is a nice old Elgin Coin Silver Case KW pocket watch. Bright Chas Fargo movement seems to have a good staff and is wound tight, but not running – seems gummed up, so needs at least a cleaning. Dial is original hand painted in great condition, as are the blued hands. Case is 3oz class Coin silver with fancy engine turning inside front lid.
