Exceptional antique c1894 Elgin 0 size 14K solid tri-color gold hunter case pocket watch featuring a bird on a branch on the back cover with further floral accenting throughout. The mechanical wind up 7 jewel grade 109 movement(serial #5233453) presently runs and keeps good time. The case is in excellent condition. There are no dings or dents and very modest wear. All raised relief work is perfect with no wear. The front cover shows a small mostly faded MSC? Monogram in a crest form cartouche. The inner dust cover is engraved Planet Prize Dec. The case is stamped warranted U. The case measures 1 7/8″ long(top of crown to bottom of case) x 1 3/8″ wide and has a gross weight of 38.3 grams. All covers snap closed. The crystal is clear with no cracks or scratches and the dial is clean. The only flaw that I can see is a tiny hairline on the outer edge of the porcelain dial between VIII and XI. A lovely timepiece that could easily be given as an award or a gift or a cherished keepsake for a loved one.. Please enlarge all pics for best details. This is for a Antique, 1894, Elgin, 6s, 11J, TRI-Color 14k Gold Filled Hunter Case Pocket Watch, Mdl. 2, Movement Serial Number: 5140944, Pocket Watch, Works. This beautiful stamped 14k tri gold filled pocket watch is in excellent working condition with the exception of some test scratches on the inside of the dust covers and usual surface scratches and wear on the case from use and storage and the lens has a slight scuff mark on the inside of the lens. The stem winds great and adjusts the time as it should. Underneath the back dust cover it shows a Crown stamp and Warranted under the stamp. It has serial number: 503469. On the inside dust cover, it is engraved Nellie Bennett and backside of the cover it has a crown symbol and 14K with number 503469. I took it to a jeweler who tested the watch and he said it was 14K on the inside dust cover where the stamp is and assumes the decorative TriGold is as well. The front lens dust cover has a serial number as well, 503469 and it also has some deep scratches from being tested. The rest of the watch he said he believed it was gold filled. Under the lens cover it has serial number: 503469. It has 11 Jewels. I believe it was made around 1894. This watch is very beautiful and ornate. I have no history when it was serviced last. In terms of Solid Gold Pocket Watches with Tri-Color adornment the ones with framed scenes are very highly sought after for their excellent execution and refined artistry and often commands much higher prices than run-of-the-mill specimen. On this particular Hampden Watch Co. Example the flowers are bluish-silver in color which is rarely seen in tri-color casework. All of the flowers are masterfully etched and engraved. Case condition is excellent so all of the floral adornment in tri-color is still sharp and overall it is just a piece of fine art. Condition-wise the watch runs but we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy or longevity as we don’t know its service history. Antique pocket watches like this specimen will likely need full service to run normally, it is the sole decision and responsibility of end-user to service or not. Cosmetically as already mentioned the case is in wonderful shape with no dings or dents and the tri-color parts are all sharp and 3-dimensional to the touch.
