Pocket Watch Case

Beautiful verge fusee watch from French Regency Epoch, circa 1720s-1730s. Very rare porcelain (over brass base) case, really hard to find. It’s decorated with painting of allegory of love on the back side – cherub in carriage driven by doves. The inner side of back cover and front cover are decorated with painted flowers. Movement is signed by Baillon a Paris. Baillon – is well known French watchmaking dynasty, known from mid-XVII. Probably, production of Etienne Baillon, installed in Paris from 1704 (died 1748). Beautiful porcelain dial with bold numbers, beetle and pocker hands – it looks a little “British”. Movement is very nice, with big balance bridges of typical French Regency style. This early movement features barrel with worm, square baluster pillars and almost none escapement regulations. After Julien Le Roy inventions of mid XVIII, these was features are impossible to find in French movements. The movement is in good working condition – works in every position. The porcelain of case has cracks and couple of minor reparation to the border. The dial has hairlines and reparation near winding hole. Diameter of outer case is 50mm, inner is 55mm. Nice antique pocket watch in pair case. Watch features nicely painted dial. Outer case is rather big, matches in size to triple cased watches – its 63mm diameter and 73mm height. Outer case is made of silvered brass and is imitating tortoiseshell. Silver inner case is typical for pair cased watches – diameter is 43mm. The dial is nicely painted with galant scene. The movement is signed by Blumb in Germaine. Baille mentions Joseph Blumb “Germaine” as author of late XVIII century watch from Metropolitan Museum. Joseph Blumb is mentioned by Jurgen Abeler in his text’Meister der Uhrenmachkunst’ as a German watch maker (no town mentioned) of the late 18th century. Most likely “Germaine” just means Germany. The movement has some features typical for German / Austrian movements – with cut and pierced surrounding of regulator and engraved rim of the top plate. See my current auctions for some unusual watches. Marsh circa 1783 pair case Crown wheel verge fusee. Great painted dial, completely original, from estate, No Reserve. You have to love this beautiful watch, circa 1783 completely original movement, case, dial, hands and crystal. The watch measures 51 mm in diameter and the case has the London date letter “h” for the years 1783 and case makers mark “I D” for John Dimsdale, Goswell Street. The pair case is in excellent condition with originals owners initials on back. It is untouched and has old watch paper for a Horsham watchmaker inside the back cover. The dial is spectacular, painted scene of shepherd courting on the right with musician holding bagpipes on the left of the dial. The dial has the original beetle/poker hands and nice bulls eye crystal. The movement, a nice crown wheel verge escapement signed Marsh 695. The watch movement is intact, I don’t see any pivot/wheel damage in the train. The balance wheel moves freely and watch tries to run although dirty. The chain is intact and you can wind the fusee wheel. The set up for tension on the fusee chain is an early type with the worm wheel under the mainspring barrel. This should be a nice spectacular piece once restored/serviced by a qualified watchmaker. It’s a great example of a complete original investment quality 18th century English watch. Up for sale is a beautiful near mint and very rare under – painted scene and under-painted dial picture antique pocket watch circa 1860 – made for the Chinese market. The watch has just been cleaned and serviced and the movement is in perfect working condition. It runs and keeps excellent time. It is a large and heavy under – painted and silver case pocket watch with an original and 100% genuine unrestored under painted mint scene on the front cover of the case. The watch is 50 mm wide, and weighs 93 gr’. Case: The unique, rare, and interesting silver case has under painted pictures from both sides, back and front. The back is a plain grey/green colour under painted cover, and the front side has the most beautiful under painted scene of a man and a woman with a dog in the country side. Both sides are in 100% mint condition. The inner silver cover that protects the movement has a nice engraved pattern, and is signed: Mi Chronometre, 22 Rubis. The case is numbered 16274. Movement: A very rare ornamented movement. Beautiful top brass plate – never seen such high quality engraving on a movement before. 22 rubies, and a very good lever escapement. The plate under the balance wheel is also engraved with high quality work. Balance wheel with compensation screws. In total: a very high quality movement. Dial: The dial is also unique as all the rest of this pocket watch parts. The centre of the dial is made from glass and it has a picture highly detailed and beautifully made that is under-painted. Verge Fusee Triple Calendar Chronograph Painted Dial Silver Case Pocket Watch. Offered for sale is this beautiful and rare Triple Calendar Chronograph Painted Dial Silver Case Pocket. Maker or production year unknown. As in the pictures, used with age related issues. Used, but very clean. The watch is in good working condition, running STRONG and keeping relevant time. However, for optimal performances cleaned / serviced is to be done. The calendar function are not tested and not guaranteed to work properly. The reason for that is that there is no side pusher or lever to adjust or verify the calendar functions. This is a pretty rare and high value watch. A one-time only collector find! The listed price is based on the average item market value. However, YOU WILL DECIDE THE CORRECT PRICE! Perfect Gilt fusee verge calendar chronograph movement. Key wind and key set, unmarked. The watch winds fully and works for the entire chain length. The movement comes in a sterling silver open face case. The case is marked AWB Wordley, Allsopp & Bliss Co. ? Normal minor dents and opening scratches. The watch measure 57,5 mm in diameter and weights including the chain 145 grams. The unique genuine painted enamel dial is in. The dial have 3 calendar subdials counters: the date counter at left, the week day counter at right and the month counter at 12. Outer fifteen-minute divisions for chronograph. The dial has full set of hands. The mineral glass is original, with visible usage marks, but in good general condition. Matching trumpet designed key is also included.
