Gorgeous pair case pocket watch with verge escapement from London in 1763 by the watchmaker Charles Bifield. Pair case made of silver with identical silver hallmarks of London in 1763. Both cases in very nice condition with small traces of age and wear. Glass with bulls eye. Glass with small signs of wear. Enamelled dial with Roman hour and Arabic minute. Two original beetel & Poker steel hands. Around the opener some small hairlines. The dail is in very good state. Guilt full plate movement with key wind, verge escapement, chain and fusee. Intricately sawn balance cock. Richly decorated and sawn subpanel. Movement with signature “Cha(rle)s Bifield London”. The movement is functional and runs up to the last element of chain. Glas mit kleinen Tragespuren. Emailliertes Zifferblatt mit römischer Stunde und arabischer Minute. Vergoldetes Vollplatinenwerk mit Schlüsselaufzug, Spindelhemmung, Kette und Schnecke. Üppig verzierte und gesägte Subplatine. Werk mit Signatur Cha(rle)s Bifield London. Das Werk ist funktionsfähig und läuft bis zum Ende ab. Mint condition solid and superb English made by John Charles of Portsea, 1825 silver cased verge fusee. Solid sterling silver pair case is Silver hall marked (k) 1825 from London assay. Absolutely flawless mint condition white colored porcelain dial with stunning Solid Gold matching hands and large 60 second sub seconds hand, which functions beautiful. Outstanding spotless high domed bullseye crystal. All case covers open, close and fit perfect together with great hinges. Key wind and key set pocket watch runs full length of chain. Balance has super motion and the main spring is nice and strong. The balance bridge is uniquely amazing and ornate with a beautiful large Diamond end stone. The movement is super clean with a unique stop/start switch that functions perfect. The movement and sub seconds hand, stops and then starts right up again when the switch is moved back. Pocket watch is regulated by a right side push arrow index. The watch measures approx. 56mm excluding the bow. Pocket watch runs outstanding and keeps great fusee time, last checked about +/- 1 or 2 minuetswithin approx. 24 hour period hanging from a hook in the vertical position…….. But cannot guarantee accuracy upon sale. These watches are verge type. Meant to keep time, not perfect time 191 years ago. Pocket watch listed in the watch and clock makers of the world book as Charles, John. There is an old Watch and Clock makers paper from Lurcan (Ireland) inside the case. Watch comes with a sharp key for winding. Note all of my pocket watches have been personally serviced and restored to there best working order according to there age and condition. Just a reminder, care must be taken when winding these old watches not to overwind. They are true museum pieces. This is truly an amazing looking solid, superb condition 191 year old fusee pocket watch that functions outstanding with a nice loud tick and flawless dial that I have personally carried and was keeping great fusee time.
