Pocket Watch Case

Up for sale is a fascinating, beautifully preserved piece of late 19th-century American horology. This 18-size open-face pocket watch represents a rare historical “marriage” featuring three prominent names from the golden age of American watchmaking. The Movement: Manufactured by the short-lived Lancaster Watch Company (Lancaster, PA) circa 1881. It features the desirable “West End” grade configuration with a beautiful gilt finish and an intricately hand-engraved balance cock. Stamped with serial number 49111 and Patent Pinion. The inner case back features the crisp, original “Blauer” oval hallmark and the “Coin” ribbon stamp alongside the serial number 52776. The Dial & Hands: This watch features a highly sought-after private label enamel dial custom-printed for the lowa Watch Co. Unlike most dials from this era, this porcelain face is in exceptional condition with zero hairline cracks, spiderwebbing, or edge chips. It features crisp Roman numerals, a sub-seconds register, and original deep plum blued-steel hands. Condition Notes. Cosmetic: Excellent antique condition.
