Gilt pocket watch, pair cases, verge – John Leroux, London, c1780. Gilt pair cases, 55 mm. A fine quality verge, by an excellent London maker. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone, polished steel escape wheel, four round pillars, and blued screws. A lever on the side of the dial at 8 oclock stops and restarts the movement. Signed and numbered (3483). This movement is in excellent condition, and is running well. DIAL : Beautiful, signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds. Matching arrowhead gold hands. All in excellent condition. INNER CASE : Yellow metal, with no makers mark. In very good condition throughout. The high dome bulls eye crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : Yellow metal, again with no makers mark. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. John Leroux (1750 1805) is listed at 8 Charing Cross, London. He is known for his development of the lever movement following Thomas Mudges invention of the escapement.
