This beautiful antique timepiece is a size 6s with a case diameter of 40mm. The watch weighs a hefty 52.6 grams, about half of which is 14K gold. I mention the gold content for a base value only. This gorgeous antique Elgin remains in near mint condition with no dings, dents, scratches or repairs. The only distraction being two superfine surface hairlines on the delicate porcelain dial at the small sunk seconds sweep as seen in the photographs. The beautifully engraved 14K gold front cover pops open to exactly 90 degrees when the stem is depressed. All other 14K solid gold covers also open to exactly 90 degrees and all covers snap tightly shut. The wind is silky smooth and it keeps excellent time. Note the incredible hand chased decorations that completely cover this superb example over all surfaces! Each cover features intricate overlapping circular scrolls that continues onto the case edge alonjg with checkered window-like engravings. In addition there’s a lovely scene at the bottom of the rear cover featuring a house beside a river surrounded by trees and mountains. Also a small monogram shield at the bottom of the front cover. The fine signed ” ELGIN ” porcelain dial is snow white with original blue steel spade hands and black Roman numerals and a small seconds sweep marked out in 10 second intervals. All three covers and case are crafted of heavy thick 14K solid yellow gold. The inside of the rear cover is stamped. ROY WARRANTED 14K U. Included inside the rear cover is the original paper identification label from the retail store ” WILSON BROTHERS ” of Boston, Mass. This is highly unusual and adds special provenance to an already special antique pocket watch! See photos of the actual label included. The inside of the polished 14K gold cuvee is stamped ” 14K 61038 “. All serial numbers match, proving the watch to be all original.
