Up for sale is a beautiful quarter repeater verge fusee silver pair case antique pocket watch, circa 1780. The watch has just been cleaned and serviced and the movement is in perfect working condition. It runs to the end of the fusee chain very smoothly and keeps very good time. The repeater mechanism functions perfectly. The sound is loud and clear. The movement has a push pendant quarter repeating two hammers on a bell. Three arm steel balance. Beautiful engraved top plate and balance cock. The mint fire gilt movement is signed. Eardley Norton, London, and numbered : 15690. Is one of the most eminent English watch makes of England in the 18th century. He is well listed in all the referenced books. For a good example you can look at: G. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, Vol. 235: A maker of great repute of watches and complex clocks. He has watches and clocks on display in every major museum. The movement has its original mint dust cap, which is also signed. The cases: Silver inner ingraved case and silver outer case that is covered with beautiful dark brown leather with silver studs, and holes for the sound to come out clearly. It is a large and heavy pair case silver pocket watch. The silver inner mint case is 51 mm wide and the silver leather cased outer case is 63 mm. The watch weighs 179 grams. The extremely good original enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed. The enamel dial has 2 very slim hair lines that in my opinion can easily be bleached out. Very nice gilt ornamented original hands. A lovely high domed clear crystal glass. Every part of this watch is original. As you can see from the pictures, it is a lovely and spectacular watch in an amazing condition!!
